Caribou Recovery Planning Update
 
UBCM has met with provincial staff to seek additional information on the role of local governments in caribou recovery. Late last month, the province announced that the partnership agreement between the federal government, provincial government, West Moberly First Nation and Saulteau First Nation had been amended to clarify how local governments will be involved in the caribou recovery process.  Read more  
Expert Panel on Housing Affordability
 
A new Expert Panel on the Future of Housing Supply and Affordability has been tasked with making recommendations to the Governments of B.C. and Canada. The Panel is seeking feedback prior to April 3 from interested parties on what could be done to increase housing supply and make housing more affordable.  Read more
Housing Needs Report Intake
 
The Housing Needs Report program is now receiving applications. This program is structured to reflect the local government planning areas that are required to complete housing needs reports, in accordance with provincial legislation. The application deadline is May 1, 2020. Based on the funding currently available, this may be the final intake for this program.    Read more
Small Communities Travel Fund
 
In advance of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) invitation for board nominations, UBCM would like to remind local governments of UBCM-FCM Small Communities Travel Fund.  This fund provides financial support to local government elected officials from BC attending the FCM Board and Standing Committee meetings.  The travel fund is intended to ensure that smaller communities are represented at FCM and have the financial means to participate.   Read more
Call for Child Care Planning Documents
 
UBCM is seeking examples of existing child care planning resources to inform the development of a best practices guide on child care planning. The Guide will address a range of topics, including: developing child care strategies and plans; financing child care; designing, building and licensing child care spaces; and working with child care operators.    Read more
CARIP Webinar
 
A webinar for the Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program (CARIP) will be held 1pm PDT on March 24, 2020. The webinar will provide an overview of the CARIP reporting requirements, including the new survey and carbon neutral reporting, and provides an opportunity for local governments to ask questions about CARIP to provincial staff. Please  register in advance or  contact the Planning & Land Use Management Branch if you have any questions.
