Daily Podcasts

Each weekday I am providing two podcasts: a devotional podcast and an interview podcast.  Today's devotional podcast runs about 18 minutes.

Today's interview podcast features Ron Dickinson.

(we had a little technical trouble with recording this interview, but I'm working with Mark Richardson to see how we can improve it so you can hear Ron better.)

Note that you can listen to any of our worship videos or the "Through the Bible" audio presentations on our church's website:   mattoonumc.com.

Daily Update

Bill Clark is home from spending the winter in Florida.  I saw him while bike riding the other day and he is looking healthy...hoping to get out on the golf course now that they are re-opening.

Jerie Brown reports that it looks like they are going to be able to sell her father's house.  This was a big concern, and part of our prayers for their family, as this is not a good time to be in the housing market.

I talked to Carol Lowry, who is recovering at home after a fall and breaking a couple ribs.  She is still able to get around town and do a little shopping for herself.

The singers are gathering at the church tonight to record more hymns.  We will have a "Hymn-Sing" video from some of these hymns that we hope will be ready tomorrow...Thursday at the latest.

I have a revision on our Thursday get-together.  It will be from 4-6 p.m. in the parsonage yards...3 Western Avenue Heights.  The times have been revised because Jie wanted to be sure and be here to see you too.  The weather looks good, and we will obey all the distancing rules.  Bring your own lawn chair if you have one.
LIFE GOES ON

Hope you are enjoying Cinco de Mayo Day, which one person pointed out happens to fall on Taco Tuesday, but can't be celebrated because we are all shut in due to a disease named after a Mexican beer.

Anyway, you've also got lots to do to get ready for tomorrow.  It is School Nurse Appreciation Day.  This day has been around since Gerald Ford announced it in 1974.  For many children, the school nurse is their primary means of health care.  School nurses continue to be an essential part of how our country cares for its children.

No school nurse, however, would approve of some other stuff going on tomorrow, especially "No Diet Day."  I will not be observing that personally, however, as I have been under 24-hour per day spousal supervision since this lockdown.

Tomorrow is also "No Homework Day," "Beverage Day," and "Golf Day."  I thought that there would be 'no homework' once I completed my formal education.  But just weeks away from my retirement, I'm still doing more homework (for my job) than I ever did in school. Beverage goes with homework:  just thinking of all the coffee that gets spilled on my papers and books.  But I have learned not to spill it on my computer...a homework essential these days that was totally absent in my formal education.  Golf Day sounds good, but I'm way out of practice...so, I have a year to get better at it so I could actually enjoy the experience instead of merely endure it.
