We're back! We get to see each other face to face, have lunch, and enjoy some fabulous speakers once again, and I am SO excited about it! The Friends board met virtually throughout the last year, and we have been able to meet in person twice already this year.
We've been working hard to continue planning and developing our programs and events.
This year, we have so much variety in our speakers: in September, Ruth Sears reviews Willie Newbury Lewis's book Between SUN and SOD; in October, Texas Monthly's Skip Hollandsworth talks about his book, Midnight Assassin; in February, Carmen Goldthwaite will regale us with tales of Texas; Rosemary Rumbly and Jill Beam will have us in stitches in April; and in May, Trent Blackley and Michael Bridges will entertain us with some country music.
Then, of course, we have several special events and fundraisers, including the ever popular Christmas luncheon; our January fashion show Cruisin' With Chico's; our Spring Tea With Hats, featuring Dr. M. Joan Terry, our Friends of the Library Board president-elect; and finally, the MUCH anticipated murder mystery, "The Murder of the Loaded Librarian."
We have a fun-filled year ahead of us! I am so excited to to continue to learn, serve, and further our mission supporting the Rockwall County Library. Stay safe and well because we want to see YOU soon!!

We are excited to announce that the Friends of the Library 18th Annual Christmas Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at The Center at Rockwall CityPlace, (108 East Washington). In an effort to keep us all safe as we emerge from the pandemic, Co-chairs Nell Welborn, Pat Calhoun, and Kathleen Broze have implemented some changes to the luncheon format and are recommending that attendees be fully vaccinated.
Friends will set up 25 large round dining tables to accommodate a maximum of eight guests per table. Our hostesses will add their special touches with their favorite china, flatware, crystal, and centerpieces. Doors will open at 11 AM so attendees have time to see all the beautiful, uniquely decorated tables before the program begins at 11:30. A catered buffet lunch will be served at noon.
Paid reservations at $25 each will be accepted at the Friends' September 14th meeting. Checks payable to Friends of the Library are preferred but cash will be accepted. It will be helpful if checks are completed in advance or exact change is offered.
To make reservations, contact Kathleen Broze at brkathking@aol.com or (214) 497-2247
For more information about hosting a table, contact Pat Calhoun at pat2792@att.net or (214) 738-7547, or Nell Welborn at nellwelborn@yahoo.com or (972) 722-3084.
