There be dragons...
This past Thursday, April 23rd, we celebrated the Memorial of Saint George. I'm not sure if you know who he is, but whenever I imagine Saint George, the image that comes to my mind is that of him as a knight standing over a slain dragon with his lance. For me, it's a profound image, since growing up, I was very much attracted to medieval fantasy stories: knights battling evil dragons, serpents and the like. With that image of Saint George however, the image of the dragon has become all the more real, as the dragon symbolizes the evils that were present in his life.
During this pandemic, this crisis, I have read and seen the good that has come from the people of God who have tried to find ways to help each other during difficulties, praise God for that. Unfortunately though, I have also seen how much evil and division that continues to exist as well.
Saint George relied on his faith in Jesus to help him overcome the dragons in his life,. Will we in turn, as we continue to celebrate Easter, call upon Jesus to come to our aid, to overcome those evils that continue to destroy relationships and the fabric of life which our Lord had sacrificed his own life for? Come, Lord Jesus, come!
