This week we're presenting Emerson Contemporary's Media Art Gallery, Boston Sculptors Gallery and Fountain Street Fine Art Gallery with exhibitions that show us the various worlds we inhabit within our familiar one. The featured artwork reveals where we exist alongside space, time, rebirth, belonging and more.

Spacetime (x, y, z + t) at Emerson Contemporary's Media Art Gallery
in Boston, Massachusetts through March 15

Emerson
Nicole L'Huillier, The Dancer (detail).

Emerson Contemporary's Media Art Gallery at Emerson College is showing Spacetime (x, y, z + t) through March 15. Artists Katherine Mitchell DiRico, Monika Grzymala, Nicole L'Huillier, Zsuzsanna Szegedi and Sarah Trahan use unconventional, multi-dimensional works of art to explore the dynamic relationships between objects and how ideas and concepts can travel across time, media and location. Rather than existing in "space" and "time," the artwork in this exhibition resides in the entity called "spacetime," an idea demonstrated by Albert Einstein which contends that the two concepts are one and the same. Katherine Mitchell DiRico's room-size installation Stilling Life uses dynamic elements to create a constantly-changing experience. Monika Grzymala utilizes virtual reality to immerse the viewer in spatial drawings. Nicole L'Huillier explores sound and movement with a robot that dances in response to its own resonant sound. Zsuzsanna Szegedi uses 3D image scans and digital projections on clay and 3D printed prototypes to examine the power dynamics between humans and machines. Sarah Trahan uncovers the imperfections in digital manufacturing and interprets them through lenses, light and ink. Spacetime (x, y, z + t) endeavors to challenge the viewer's perspective by bringing together space and time and creating new, immersive and artistic experiences. Emerson Contemporary's Media Art Gallery is located at 25 Avery Street in Boston, Massachusetts and is open WednesdaySunday 12:007:00 p.m. For more information, visit emerson.edu/urban-arts/media-art-gallery.

Sailing to the Edge and (Re)Generation at Boston Sculptors Gallery
in Boston, Massachusetts through March 29

Boston Sculptors Gallery
Andy Zimmermann, Too Close wall installation sails, welded steel 8' x 13' x 1 1/2'.

Two solo exhibitions, Sailing to the Edge and (Re)Generation are on view at Boston Sculptors Gallery through March 29. Sailing to the Edge features the artwork of Andy Zimmermann, who uses translucent materials to filter light. He also enjoys utilizing recycled materials, which has led to old, weathered sails becoming his preferred materials. His installation is made up of 12 sections of sails and metal sculpture, creating a maze-like space that can be configured in new ways with every install. (Re)Generation showcases the artwork of Ellen Schön, whose ceramic totems are inspired by the human figure. "The idea of regeneration affirms our connection to the past, while discovering what we carry forward," Schön explains. The concept of the series was originally sparked by her pregnant daughter, and has since evolved into the exploration of abstraction, feminism and fertility. The totems are signs of the future, but what they mean to say about it is only for the next generation to know. Both Sailing to the Edge and (Re)Generation use unique forms to convey their abstract ideas to the viewer, encouraging them to explore the artworks and materials just as the artists have. There will be a reception for both exhibitions on Friday, March 6, 5:308:30 p.m. Boston Sculptors Gallery is located at 486 Harrison Avenue in Boston, Massachusetts, and is open WednesdaySunday 11:00 a.m.5:00 p.m. For more information, please visit bostonsculptors.com.

Where The Worlds Meet and The Outlanders at Fountain Street Fine Art Gallery
in Boston, Massachusetts through March 29 and April 1 through April 26

FSFA
Mia Cross, Paint Me to Match My Grandma's Drapes, oil and acrylic on canvas, 53" x 72".

Fountain Street Fine Art Gallery is showing Where The Worlds Meet through March 29, and will be showing The Outlanders from April 1 through April 26. Where The Worlds Meet is a collaboration between artists Mia Cross and Daniel Zeese, who have been friends since 2015 and work together often. Their new bodies of work were created during their residencies at Vermont Studio Center, each making a unique world for their art to live in. The artists have even constructed new pieces in response to each other's artworks. Where The Worlds Meet is an intersection between their worlds, showing the viewer places both known and unfamiliar. The Outlanders will showcase paintings by Alexandra Rozenman and sculptures by Nora Valdez. Their pieces in this exhibition are inspired by their travels around the world and the broader search for belonging and home. Rozenman draws on her experience as a Russian immigrant to create her paintings, and Valdez is an Argentinian sculptor cataloging the journey of the immigrant. Both Where The Worlds Meet and The Outlanders ask where we fit in the various worlds around us, and how to reconcile with the unknown and unfamiliar. There will be a reception for Where The Worlds Meet on Friday, March 6, 5:008:00 p.m. Fountain Street Fine Art Gallery is located at 460C Harrison Avenue #2 in Boston, Massachusetts, and is open WednesdaySaturday 12:006:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m.5:00 p.m. For more information, please visit fsfaboston.com/exhibits.
