SBIR/STTR Tutorials

The Small Business Administration's Office of Innovation and Technology offers a tremendous resource to those interested in the SBIR/STTR programs through its website at SBIR.gov. One of the key features of the site is its bank of tutorials at https://www.sbir.gov/tutorials. These tutorials offered in both audio/video and text offer both general and agency specific information via 18 different courses. There is value to be had perusing the topics whether you are new to the SBIR/STTR programs or have successfully received funding.

Benefits of Searching Current and Past Awards

One of the main "homework" items that we assign to small business clients that we work with is to research current and past SBIR/STTR awards.  While the participating federal agencies offer award databases, we often suggest https://www.sbir.gov/sbirsearch/award/all because it encompasses all agencies' awards.  Here you can search for awards by keyword, company name and topic code.  Results can be filtered by agency, year, state, and phase.

Virtual Becoming Investor-Ready Wrap-up

The SBTDC's Tech Team wrapped up its 2020 training event calendar with a 2-part "Becoming an Investor-Ready Entrepreneur" (IRE) workshop on 12/2 and 12/9.  The primary goal of the program is to help entrepreneurs view investors as "customers of equity", so that they can reduce barriers to funding, navigate the process more easily, and increase the chances of obtaining funding.

With almost 200 attendees from NC and beyond, this was one of the most highly attended sessions in the 15-year history of the IRE program.  We look forward to bringing this program to you either in-person or virtually again in 2021.  More information about the program is available at:  https://www.sbtdc.org/investorready

Experiencing Supply Chain Issues as a Result of COVID-19?

You're not alone.  Appalachian State University (ASU) is partnering with the SBTDC in an effort to better understand the impact of supply chain disruption during the COVID-19 pandemic. ASU graduate students are gathering information on the supply chain challenges facing small and mid-size businesses via an anonymous survey.

Participating in the study will provide valuable insight into current supply chain issues and potential solutions. Businesses that complete the survey will receive a summary report of the study's findings and a link to the SBTDC's Digital Marketing Guide.  The survey will take approximately 15 minutes or less to complete.
