Almighty and everlasting God, who in the Paschal mystery established the new covenant of reconciliation: Grant that all who have been reborn into the fellowship of Christ's Body may show forth in their lives what they profess by their faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Sunday Adult Forum
Ruth, Ancestor of Jesus

In his geneology of Jesus, Matthew includes five women, including Ruth, a great-grandmother of King David and hence an ancestor of Jesus.  Why Ruth?  And why is Ruth--her character and her story--especially relevant during Eastertide?

On Sunday, April 19, following our ZOOM worship service, please stay tuned and join Anne Rapkin as we explore these issues.

It is recommended that, prior to the forum, participants read the Book of Ruth, using in the translation of the Bible we utilize here at Trinity Church: the New Revised Standard Version.  The NRSV closely follows the Hebrew original, and makes the deeper meanings of the original more accessible.  Of course, other translations can be used, but if you'd like the NRSV and don't have it, please let Anne know and you will be e-mailed a copy (a.rapkin@snet.net; 860-521-5992).

Virtual Open House for Camp Washington

From the Wardens

It was a glorious Easter, was it not? Different than any that we've ever celebrated, but glorious nonetheless. The most "Trinity" element of the service was the joy and love evident on people's faces as we greeted one another after the service was over. It was a lovely and grace-filled moment.

The work of the Transition continues. This week the Recruitment Committee will begin "mock interviews," giving them an opportunity to practice their interviewing and listening skills in preparation for actual interviews of candidates for the position of Rector. The posting for the position will remain open until April 30, and the committee members will be ready when the time comes.

An important reminder: Trinity's expenses continue, even though we aren't meeting in the buildings. Our staff is working harder than ever to keep our operations running smoothly, and our bills will need to be paid. If you are in a financial position to continue your offerings to Trinity, please do so. We understand that some people are suffering financial hardship as a result of the coronavirus, which is all the more reason to continue giving if you can.

How? There are several ways, but the easiest and safest in terms of maintaining physical distance is to contribute online. Our website (Trinityhartford.org) has a "Giving" tab with information about how to make a gift either using Paypal or your bank's bill pay function. If you have questions about how all this works, you can either email or call our Financial Manager, Fran Times-Mack (Ftimesmack@trinityhartford.org) or call 860-527-8133, ext. 206. You may also mail a check to the church (120 Sigourney Street, Hartford 06105).

Transitions to Eternal Life

Trinity Church mourns the death of Carl Williams, a long-time and faithful member of this parish, who recently passed from this life.  Our prayers are with his friends and family.

We also mourn with Janet Wilkinson in the recent death of her sister,
Helen Kitzman, of New Orleans.  Helen attended Trinity Church with Janet when living with her after Hurricane Katrina.

Father of all, we pray to you for Carl and for Helen, and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May their souls and the souls
of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

The Campaign for Trinity -
Your Campaign Donations at Work!

Did you know that the Parish House on Sigourney Street was built in 1881? It is the oldest building on the Trinity Church campus, and currently houses the church offices. Its front porch has been ailing for some time, but that's about to change.
Since the structure is part of the Asylum Hill Historic District, rebuilding the porch requires special care to conform aesthetically to the district's standards, and of course to the City of Hartford's building codes. This week, Will McNair of R & W McNair, LLC Builders and Renovators, began dismantling the porch railing so that he can duplicate it from new materials. New posts have already been turned and painted, and next week, he will be ready to begin rebuilding the structure. The work is expected to take about three weeks.

Virtual! Cystic Fibrosis Walk June 5th

It's time again for our annual Cystic Fibrosis walk!

Kate and Drew Smith's granddaughter, Sarah, was born with Cystic Fibrosis; she is now 10 years old and doing well. This year, instead of going back to Wickham Park in Manchester in mid May, we will be doing a virtual walk on June 5th. We do our annual walk (3 miles) to support the Great Strides program which raises research dollars for this genetic lung disease. We need everyone to be safe, so we ask participants to walk in in their own neighborhoods. More details will follow as to how this will all be done.

Here's the story as to the choice of our walk date: 6/5:
Way back in 1965, a little girl overheard her parents talking about the disease... she thought they said "65 roses" instead of cystic fibrosis (which is a mouthful) So to this day, the rose has been a symbol of our cause. And 6/5 is usually an important date for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Instead of separate walks all around the state, there will be one virtual walk. The great thing about a virtual walk, is that you can do it any time you want!

Maybe we can take photos or do videos that I can post.! Any questions? My email is: Kate48smith@comcast.net    or call 860-519-1591. At this writing, the bake and plant sale will take place at a later time.

Thanks so much, Kate and Drew Smith

"Chasing Labyrinths" Now Available

Bill Ludwig's book
on the labyrinths of Connecticut and rhode Island is now available from Hotchkiss Publishing.  Trinity's labyrinth, in our Memorial Garden, is among those featured.

Ludwig writes:

You have probably driven by many labyrinths without noticing them. I once walked across one in a church courtyard to ask directions only to be told I had been on it already! Thus the need for a guidebook to help you in your search so you may do a bit less chasing that I did.

Labyrinths have been enjoying a renaissance which began just before the turn of this century with the Lauren Artress Founder of Veriditas leading the way.  In 1998 there were only 100 labyrinths listed online, today there are over 4,440 in the US alone. The oldest permanent outdoor labyrinth in Connecticut will be found in Litchfield, at Wisdom House, built in 1996. The increased interest in spiritualty, mindfulness, seems to have inspired the growth. They can be viewed as a metaphor for life with twists and turns.  They teach us to trust the path we are on is our life's path.

Trinity Church will receive a complementary copy when published in May.

Holy Week and Easter Gratitude

A special and heartfelt Thank You to those who made our Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Easter services an opportunity for us to worship in community: Fr. Norman and Jack Merrill who created liturgies that worked in concert with the changing digital delivery formats; Casey Rousseau and Jack Troiano who spent countless hours insuring that the technical aspects worked seamlessly; Barbara Roos who produced service leaflets for each of the holy days and co-ordinated every aspect of our strange new way of praying and working together;
George Chien who continues to updateus through the E-Blast; our Readers, Singers and Preachers; Karin Peterson, who retrieved the palms from the UPS office so they could be used for Palm Sunday; and to all who worked behind the scenes.

And of course, thank you to all of you, who worship with us and provide feedback so that we can continue to adapt our services to these changing times. Thank you!
