This Wednesday, March 4 is one of three upcoming Wednesdays where we will not be releasing the students early due to testing. This applies to all campuses across OCPS, not just Lake Nona. For planning purposes, the other two Wednesdays are April 1 and May 6.
Please also remember that we will be holding our March School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting on Tuesday, March 3 at 5:30 p.m. As is always the case, all members of our school community are invited and strongly encouraged to attend.
I would like to congratulate our 7th grade Knights for setting the pace during February. On a weekly basis, they had the fewest tardies to school, the fewest tardies to class, tied for the highest attendance rate, and checked out the most books from the library (see table). Great effort 7th grade!

Ying Expo Science Competition
This year 75 teams, or individuals, submitted projects through LNMS Science Fair Club. Following judging by the Science Department, 9 of those projects were chosen to represent LNMS at the Central Florida Regional competition: The Ying Expo on February 13, 2020. At the Ying Expo, Lake Nona was one of 13 middle schools from around the county and in the Junior Division alone their projects competed against a field of 165 projects.
Our 9 teams represented LNMS very well with all, but one of our teams placing or receiving honorable mention in their categories. In addition, our
Liliana Torres was recognized by The Office of Naval Research with a special award and gift card for her project.
A big congratulations goes out to all of our participants!

The LNMS Sun Games are fast approaching on Thursday March 12, 2020!
Some of our students have taken the challenge to create a solar car to race on our own orange track. They are looking for a high-speed, fueled by the Sun, as they take their lap. The pictures below are of students who took the checkered flag seriously and met with teachers, Mr. Bloom and Mr. Menard, for some extra help in the cock-pit. Start your engines soon!

Track Try-Outs this Monday!
Track try-outs begin Monday immediately after school and will continue through Friday. It is required for those interested in trying out to attend every day. You must have at least a 2.0 cumulative G.P.A. and a sports physical packet turned in.

Basketball Playoffs
After two hard fought games, our girls and boys basketball seasons came to an end Wednesday night. Both teams ended with winning records of 6-2 and continued our tradition of advancing to the County Championship Playoffs. We are extremely proud of our teams for their hard work all season.

AP Spanish with Ms. Rivera
In observance of Black History Month, Ms. Rivera's AP Spanish students researched the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. They each shared one relevant detail about his life. Ms. Rivera provided each student a puzzle piece. The students added color and put the pieces together to create a mural of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. along with a quote.

3-D Art with Ms. Guyton
In observation of Black History Month, Ms. Guyton's 3-D Art classes studied the art of Alma Thomas. Students created colorful mosaics inspired by this style of art.

Reading with Ms. Miller
In observation of Black History Month, Ms. Miller's reading classes learned about The Freedom Riders. Students were assigned to act as specific characters and read parts for the play.

3-D Art with Ms. Guyton (Part II)
In observation of Black History Month, Ms. Guyton's 3-D Art classes studied and created works of art inspired by the style of African American artist, Corey Barksdale.
