Principal's Message October 10, 2019

A chill is in the air, and it finally feels like fall. This week marks the halfway point in the marking period, and today Progress Reports will go home with students in fourth through eighth grades. These progress reports give parents the opportunity to see where their children are at this point in the marking period. Parent Teacher Conferences will take place on November 14, but if you have a more immediate concern, we encourage you to reach out. We know that students are most successful when families and schools work together.

Each month St. Catherine of Siena School celebrates a specific gospel value. Our gospel value for October is community. We believe as a Eucharistic community we share a common faith and live in unity with the Spirit as disciples of Jesus. Teachers in each class are incorporating our monthly gospel values into classroom discussions and into the curriculum. For example, students might discuss whether a character in a book they are reading is affirming the gospel value of community. In social studies, students might discuss whether certain historical figures were living the gospel value of community in their interactions with others. Discussing the gospel value of community might be a nice way to get a conversation going at home around the dinner table. There are many ways our students are living gospel values here at SCSS.

Our Student Council Diaper Drive has been a huge success! Thank you to all families who have participated and thank you to Mrs. Brennan and the Student Council for organizing the diaper drive. We appreciate your generosity very much. Student Council is celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month with donations to Swim Across the Sound. See Thursday folder for details.

Please check your child's Thursday folders today for information on Trunk or Treat, Panera Bread and Villarina's fundraisers. SCSS is looking for volunteers for the Walkathon and for our SCSS Service team. You will find additional information and sign-up sheets for those volunteer opportunities in the Thursday folders.
