Message from our Executive Director

So many exciting things have happened in the past few weeks, and all of them have been made better by you! We have had North Texas Giving Day, run our 3
rd
annual Bed Race, and are driving a new-to-us car. Read on to learn more and to find out this year’s Bed Race winners.
The ultimate purpose of all of these events is to end childhood homelessness. Thank you so much for being a part of this mission. It means the world to the three families (4 adults and 9 children) we currently are serving.
As the autumn leaves fall, so may blessings and good fortune fall upon you.
Sincerely,
Leigh Walker

Thank you to
Blake Utter Ford
for helping
Family Promise of Grayson County
find and get a great deal on a newer vehicle for our guests to drive to work and school. Blake’s crew, including Jimmy Moore, quickly made the minor repairs necessary for us to have the vehicle without delay. Jason Klas coordinated everything that went into our purchase. Having this vehicle has greatly improved the reliability of our guests’ transportation. Thanks again, Blake!

Sherman Noon Lions Club Helps Us Get Going!
|
|
The Sherman Noon Lions Club has helped move us down the road with their very generous contribution of $1000 towards the cost of our new vehicle. The Lions are known for their outstanding work in helping address sight problems in individuals with low income. They also have helped purchase cabinets for the Family Promise Day Center. Special thanks to Lions James Johnson and Kent Newtown for presenting this gift to Family Promise Director Leigh Walker.

Thank you so much for your response to
North Texas Giving Day
! You proved
just how big
your hearts really are!
The success of
North Texas Giving Day is a true testament to the power of giving locally and to the valuable work nonprofits do to make North Texas stronger. Across North Texas, 100,000 donors raised more than $50 million for nearly 3000 nonprofits.
With the help of a very generous matching donor who has asked to remain anonymous, a total of $14,608 was raised for Family Promise of Grayson County! These funds will be used in attaining our vision of a community in which no child is homeless. Again, thank you! We could not be any prouder to call this region our home.
And thank you to
Schulman’s Movie Bowl Grille
for hosting a North Texas Giving Day gathering for nonprofit organizations! Mark Schulman, Alex Schulman, Jason Kelly, Chris Frescaz, and Sam Phillips were among those facilitating this event. They provided incentives for donors to give to the organizations present.

Speaking of generous, the
Texoma Woodcarvers Guild
made an exquisite 18-piece nativity set, which they raffled off at the Sherman Arts Fest. Congratulations to Connie Rider of Denison for winning this beautiful handcrafted set! Prior to the drawing, the Guild invited Leigh Walker to their monthly meeting to share about Family Promise. Several Guild members attend Family Promise Host Congregations, and others heard about Family Promise for the first time. We always are delighted to inform people about all the great strides Grayson County families experiencing homelessness are making with the help of Family Promise. Proceeds from the raffle will be donated to Family Promise of Grayson County.

National Family Promise Week
|
|
We are excited to celebrate National Family Promise Week again this year! Over the past seven years, Family Promise Affiliates across the country have set aside a week in October to celebrate the work we all do every day – preventing families from becoming homeless, sheltering those in crisis, and stabilizing families so they are no longer at risk. Ultimately, we all are transforming lives. This year, Family Promise Week will be October 20-27.
Since the inception of Family Promise in 1988, Family Promise Affiliates collectively have served more than 925,000 guests, the majority of them children. It was announced at the Family Promise National Convention in San Antonio last April that Family Promise aspires to change the future of 1,000,000 children by 2030. Be on the lookout for more information about National Family Promise Week!
|
|
In conjunction with National Family Promise week, members of Victory Life Church of Sherman will be having a Training and Service Day on Saturday, October 26
th
, at the Family Promise of Grayson County Day Center (901 E Houston St, Suite 100, in Sherman). Training will be from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, and then they will do service for Family Promise from 10 AM to noon.
Anyone desiring to be a Family Promise volunteer is welcome to attend training from 8-10 AM on the 26th.

Our mission is intersecting faith and community to empower Grayson County families to end child homelessness. Many of you regularly ask how you can pray for Family Promise of Grayson County.
Please pray for:
- The families in our program--that they can attain financial stability and stable homes.
- The families who are on our waiting list.
- The health and safety of our guests and volunteers.
- Our Host and Support Congregations who have the heart of Christ for serving our guests and to know what a huge gift they are giving our community.
- For our Director, Leigh, and Case Manager, Amyee as they work on our behalf with churches and families.
- For our volunteers who have a host of gifts and talents that enrich Family Promise.
- For our donors and sponsors who support Family Promise financially to do this work.
- That Family Promise can flourish in order to meet more and more needs, until we achieve a community where no child is homeless!
