INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK (IEW) & R EGION VII 2019 CONFERENCE DATES

Dear Colleagues,

As you may know by now, Region VII Conference in Orlando takes place the same week as the nationally recognized International Education Week (IEW). We know this is not ideal for offices that put on many programs and events to recognize this week, as well as offices that do not have many staff members.

We hope that notifying schools of this scheduling conflict in advance will allow you time to navigate plans for IEW whether it be hosting events the week before or partnering with other departments on your campus to make up for any missing staff who will attend the conference.

That being said, I have created an online form for submissions of successful IEW programs. If your office puts on a great program/event for IEW that you feel could be duplicated at another institution, please fill out this form! There will be prompts to guide you through sharing the details of your event. We will compile submissions and provide them on the GAIE website! This is a great opportunity for us to collaborate as a state.

Please share your ideas via  this collaboration form.

Example:

Name of Program: ACIREMA for departments
Budget: free
Suggested Staff number needed: 8-10, other volunteers from departments could help too
Description of program: Host campus partners for an international student simulation and debrief of admission, visa application process, and arrival experience in the US. Staff will play roles of admission officer, CBP officer, Consulate, etc. Campus partners will be in the role of an international student.
Things to prepare to put on a similar program: Give enough time to advertise to make sure you have enough people to sign up. 20 people would make the event worthwhile.
Your email if you are willing to be contacted with questions about your program:  -------

Has a new website in the form of a blog, which will be upgraded to a traditional website in the near future. Please take note of the AAIE website!
