Ask Your Senator to Support Civics Education Funding
The Massachusetts legislature passed a law last session calling for civics education in all schools. LWVMA was instrumental in advocating for this law.

However, the Civics Project Trust Fund that would pay for implementing the program was neither included in the Governor's budget proposal nor in the House version of the budget. The Senate is now considering its version of the budget.

Please call or email your Senator this week and ask them to support Senate budget amendment 202, sponsored by Sen. Harriette Chandler, to include the Civics Project Trust Fund in the Senate version of the budget. You can find your senator here.

The civics education law calls for the establishment of this fund. It is necessary to appropriate the money.

Here is a fact sheet on the Civics Project Trust Fund for your information. Feel free to include it if you email your Senator.

Quick points for your call or email:
  1. My name is [YOUR NAME], I am a member of the LWV in [YOUR CITY OR TOWN]
  2. I am [calling/emailing] to ask for your support of Senate budget amendment 202 sponsored by Sen. Harriette Chandler.
  3. Amendment 202 supports funding for the Civics Project Trust Fund. This $1.5M request is based on best practices for funding civics education; the majority of funds are for necessary teacher professional development.
