Evensong
Sunday, March 1, 5:30 PM

Evensong will be sung by the Saint Paul's Choir next Sunday, March 1, 5:30  PM in place of the usual Celtic Service.  Evensong, a service of sung evening prayer, finds its roots in the Medieval English church and has become one of the most beloved liturgies of the Episcopal Church.  At Saint Paul's, the choir sings this beautiful service twice a year.  It is celebrated with the singing of glorious canticles, psalms, songs of praise, and petitions for renewal by the Holy Spirit. A reception in the River Room follows the event. The Nursery will be available beginning at 5 PM.

Hot food should be delivered warm to the River Room kitchen before the Evensong service. We ask that you deliver your items on disposable serving ware, and we will plate them for the reception. Please include your name on any items you need returned.  If you prefer to make a monetary donation, please make your check payable to Saint Paul's Church and annotate it for the "Evensong Reception."  Questions, contact Bill Ford

Rectors' Discretionary Account

Your generous non-pledged offerings (cash and designated checks) on the first Sunday each month support our clergy's Discretionary Account. Frs. Muir and Jenkins use these funds to meet urgent needs within our community, to further the ministries of the church when other funds are not available, and to support community programs and institutions that serve those in need.

Formation Classes This Sunday
March 1
ADULTS
Lenten Book Study: Speaking Christian
Leader: Fr. Muir
9:30 AM, The Chapel

Beginning Sunday, March 1, 9:30 AM in the Chapel, we will explore Marcus Borg's look into why Christian words have lost their power and how they can be restored.   In his introduction Borg states "Christian language has become a stumbling block in our time.  Much of its basic vocabulary is seriously misunderstood by Christians and non-Christians alike.  Big words like salvation, saved, sacrifice, redeemer, redemption, righteousness, repentance, mercy, sin, forgiveness, born again, second coming, God, Jesus,  and Bible... have acquired meanings that are serious distortions of their biblical and traditional meanings."

There will be two opportunities weekly for groups to meet to discuss this book. Please feel free to drop into either day of the week based on your schedule.

Books will be available ($10 donation and also available on audio-book) beginning this Sunday and in the parish office. Questions, contact Fr. Muir.

WEAVING GOD'S PROMISES
Leader: Coleman Graham
Location: The First Classroom in CMC

Our bigger children will immerse themselves in an Episcopal formation experience rooted in the stories of our faith as presented in John's Gospel. In this second of a three-year cycle, our children focus on stories of individual encounters with Jesus, transformation in God's love, and the saints of the church. Our theme in this curriculum year is "Once we were no people, but now we are God's people." Every session incorporates theology and history from our Episcopal-Anglican perspective.

Questions? Contact  Coleman Graham or  Fr. Jenkins.

CHILDREN -- Ages 4s to 8, Kindergarten thru 2nd grade

GODLY PLAY
Leader:   Kim Butler and Ivey Coleman
Location: The Godly Play Room

We take children and their relationship with God seriously and seek to provide both space to foster encounters with God and the language necessary to make meaning of those experiences. Within the Godly Play classroom, the Biblical narrative is lovingly presented to children using beautiful materials with an invitation to step into each story with awe and wonder. Children are then allowed time to respond to and reflect on their experience of the story.

Calling All Bakers and All Who Love Cake

Saint Paul's celebrates birthdays once per month with prayer, song, and cake at 10:30 AM in Tyler Hall on the second Sunday.  We would love to have you sign up for a special month and give the gift of cake, or team up with a fellow baker and bring a homemade treat.  Cakes need to be large enough to serve 40-50 people, so a half sheet is usually the perfect size.  You can even help serve the cake to our church family.  If you would like to sponsor a month but physically cannot bring the cake to church, please contact Melissa.  Any questions, contact Melissa Friedman
