In an effort to keep our members current on the latest information regarding the coronavirus crisis and vaccinations, the Medical Society of Delaware is sharing the following:
Expanded COVID-19 Vaccine EUAs for 3rd Dose in Some Immunocompromised
Today the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) issued a Health Update for physicians with additional guidance for clinical considerations when determining a person’s degree of altered immunocompetence for receiving a third mRNA vaccine dose. According to DPH, studies show that immunity wanes much earlier for the elderly than younger individuals and as a result, hospitalizations are reflecting this. Those over 65, and especially those over age 85, appear to be more vulnerable to breakthrough cases. DPH is encouraging physicians to use their clinical judgment to determine whether anyone over 65 should go ahead and get their third dose of an mRNA vaccine at this point.
HHS Announces $25.5 Billion
in COVID-19 Provider Funding
The Biden Administration announced today that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), is making $25.5 billion in new funding available for health care providers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Important to note:
HHS is also announcing today a final 60-day grace period to help providers come into compliance with their Provider Relief Fund (PRF) Reporting requirements if they fail to meet the deadline on September 30, 2021, for the first PRF Reporting Time Period. While the deadlines to use funds and the Reporting Time Period will not change, HHS will not initiate collection activities or similar enforcement actions for non-compliant providers during this grace period.
