Update from NACE President Rich Sanders 


As we approach Thanksgiving and Christmas, I want to let everyone know how thankful I am to have had the opportunity to be your NACE President this year. It has been a joy to serve you over the last 7 months.

Thanksgiving and Christmas offer us opportunities for family gatherings and times for reflection. Now is the perfect time to thank God for His blessings. Ruth and I have been blessed with a new grandson. Weston Charles Sanders, son of our son Jake and his wife Jensen, was born November 14 at 8:12 am. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 6 oz., is 20 ½" long. He is healthy and, of course, perfect. Our little 17-month old granddaughter, Eden, is a wonderful big sister and looking for ways, she can help. Ruth and I have also been blessed this year with a new son-in-law, Jon Laudner, married to our daughter Rachel on June 23. We are in good health (although, you know we are over 50 so everything starts to ache), we have good jobs, we celebrated our 33rd Anniversary, and we have been extremely blessed to spend time with good NACE friends in Washington, Alabama and Texas.

TC3- Transportation Curriculum Coordination Council (AASHTO) 

Local government and tribal transportation practitioners across the U.S. are responsible for more than 75 percent of our Nation's highway network. AASHTO's TC3 training library is one resource for local and tribal agencies in building and maintaining the skills necessary to operate such a vast system. FHWA has an agreement with AASHTO to provide local government and tribal transportation practitioners with access to this library.

NACE Activities Update     

Attention County Engineers! In case you missed it...the Member Services Committee of NACE is developing an education program for new and existing County Engineers and would like your input on what topics you feel are important to be included.  Please take a few minutes and complete the survey. Your participation is very important at this preliminary stage as we intend to use the results of the survey to provide direction to the committee for our future activities.

NACE presents 3 awards annually:

Rural County Engineer of the Year
Urban County Engineer of the Year
Project / Program Manager of the Year

These highest awards are bestowed to deserving NACE members, recognizing county road officials for their applications or management of efficient engineering management principles for the economic design, construction, maintenance and operation of public works facilities, roads, bridges or related projects.

David P. Brand Safety Award

This award recognizes an individual who has followed in Dave's footsteps, having a positive influence on improving safety on the local, regional, state and national levels.

Accordingly since it considers life-time achievements and not discrete projects as such, the Safety Award may not be awarded every year.
National Summit on Rural Road Safety | Dec. 4-6 | Savannah

Improving Work Zones Every Day, in Every Way  

FHWA has developed a comprehensive set of programs, strategies, and tools for the management of safer and more efficient temporary traffic control. The addition of work zones on busy roadways is a formula for crashes and increased congestion. In 2015, more than 96,000 crashes related to work zones resulted in 35,000 people injured and more than 700 reported fatalities.
