Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center is hosting Be Proud! Be Responsible Workshop -  on  Saturday, May 11  from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm at 32150 Dorsey Street. This workshop is open to youths between the ages of 12 & 18. FREE snacks, lunch and a prize will be provided to all participants. Join us for a fun and interactive workshop. Mother's Day Drop-In Craft at the William P. Faust Public Library - on  Saturday, May 11 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. Free for all ages - no registration required. Make a fun gift and card to surprise mom (or another special lady) on Mother's Day. No Moms Allowed! The Library is located at 6123 Central City Parkway.

Westland Library will be CLOSED on Sunday, May 12  in observance of Mother's Day.

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings. Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location: 

Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA)
  • The TIFA/EDC Board promotes economic and business development through programs and public improvement projects that create economic opportunity, provide entrepreneurial support, and preserve property values. Regularly scheduled board meetings take place the second Tuesday of every other month at 8:00 am at City Hall. The next meeting is Tuesday, May 14 at 36300 Warren Road. The Friendship Center invites you to celebrate Older Michiganians Day - on Wednesday, May 15 from 10:30 am - 1:00 pm. This is a Statewide Advocacy Event for Michigan's Older Adults. This is an annual free event that brings together hundreds of older adults, service providers and senior advocates. OMD is an opportunity for older Michiganians to share a unified voice with elected officials; expressing the concerns, challenges and potential initiatives for older adults. The event takes place on the South Lawn of the State Capitol Building, Lansing. This is a yearly event, so if you aren't able to attend this time, please consider going next year. The Westland Farmers & Artisans Market opens for the season - on  Thursday, May 16 from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm, 1901 N. Carlson. Stop by on opening day to celebrate spring! Permit Free Garage Sale Days - on Friday, May 17 - Sunday, May 19. To help get rid of gently used items and make a little money at the same time, the City is once again offering a Permit Free Garage Sale Weekend! As an added bonus incentive to participate, and to help your sale be successful, the City will help promote your sale for FREE on our website. Secretary of State Mobile Office - on Friday, May 17 at William P. Faust Public Library, 6123 Central City Parkway. The Secretary of State mobile office is coming to the library! The mobile office allows you to renew driver's licenses, obtain license plates, register to vote, and so much more! No forms are needed beforehand for this drop-in event. The mobile office will be in our parking lot. If poor weather, it will be in Meeting Rooms A and B. Holliday Nature Preserve Rouge Rescue will take place on Saturday, May 18 from 8:30 am - 1:00 pm at 6867 North Hix Road. 21st Annual 5K Fun Run/Walk - on Saturday, May 18 at 9:00 am. Join North Brothers Ford & The City of Westland to benefit the breast cancer research, treatment and education at Karmanos Cancer Institute. All proceeds go locally to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute for Breast Cancer Research. The event will start at the Westland Farmers Market, 1901 Carlson Street. Live Farm Animals - on Saturday, May 18 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at William P. Faust Public Library, 6123 Central City Parkway. The whole family will enjoy coming to see a pony, donkey, goats, sheep, alpaca, bunnies, ducks, and a baby cow. When you're done, browse our collection of books to learn more about them. Family Movie Day at William P. Faust Public Library - on Sunday, May 19, 6123 Central City Parkway in Meeting Rooms A and B. Please join us for a FREE family movie at 1:00 pm. The movie will be Lego Movie 2: The Second Part!  Movies are rated G or PG and run approximately 90 minutes. The Arts Center for Enlightenment is pleased to present Meditations on Silence, an exhibition of artwork that explores the theme of silence, with interpretations ranging from somber to energetic. Meditations on Silence will be presented in the Westland City Hall Gallery, 36300 Warren Road through May 30. The exhibition features work that dispels the notion that silence is stagnant.
