BEAGLE BUGLE - ROCKWELL PTA AND SCHOOL NEWS
REMOTE LEARNING BEGINS TODAY

Starting today, LWSD will be fully transitioned to curriculum-based remote learning and will continue until the end of the school year (June 19, 2020).

To help parents and students navigate remote learning, teachers will be using a common format for weekly learning e-mails. These e-mails include an outline of the lessons for the week and will be sent each Monday. They are designed to provide students and families and with consistent, accessible information to help with planning for the week.

MESSAGE FROM MR. CLARK

Dear Beagle Families,

Greetings from (virtual) Rockwell! I hope you are enjoying this beautiful Spring sunshine.

Families: this is an exciting time. On Monday, April 20, we will embark on the next steps of our curriculum-based remote learning journey. The Rockwell team has been working hard to prepare for this next phase, and once again I am so proud of our team. Our teachers have been working together to create and plan resources and learning opportunities that are meaningful, standards-based, and that keep our students moving forward. Please keep an eye out for communication from youR child's teacher with more information specific to their class and grade level. And as always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacherour counselor Mrs. Bauer, or any member of our office team. We're in this together, and we're here to support our students families in any way we can.

An analogy I have heard frequently over the past several weeks (that I know will resonate with the engineers in our community) is that of designing and building an airplane that is already in the air. These are unprecedented times, and we have found ourselves creating (and sometimes recreating) brand new systems and procedures. In that vein, thank you so much for flexibility as we navigate this new terrain and make changes and updates as needed to ensure our students have the best experience possible. By the time we're done, this airplane will be a beauty.

Also, since learning will take place offsite for the remainder of the school year, this means that events such as field trips are cancelled across the district through June. We are working on issuing refunds to families who pre-paid for cancelled events. I will also be working on a system for families to pick up student belongings that may still be in classrooms. I will share more information about this in the weeks to come.

Take care, stay well, and continue to give your Beagle Best every day. The Rockwell team misses you, but we are Beagle Strong, and we've got this!

Kind Regards,
-Michael Clark
Principal

ELEMENTARY STUDENT RETURN VERIFICATION

Elementary Student Return Verification 2020-21:

Enrollment projections are necessary in planning for school next year. Therefore, we need to know if your child is returning to Rockwell, so we can plan more accurately for the coming year (teacher and other staffing is dependent upon the information we receive). Please use this link to complete and submit this form for each of your children in kindergarten through fourth grade. Please submit your response as soon as possible.  If you have already completed the process through the district form you don't need to respond again. Thank you!

PARENT INPUT FORM FOR 2020-21

Dear Rockwell Families:

The process of grouping students and placing them in assigned classrooms is an important task our staff undertakes each year. Our goal is to create balanced classroom communities while taking into consideration individual student needs. As we approach the end of the year, we are beginning to work on the 2020-2021 classroom placements. This process is very important and the staff at Rockwell work very hard, as a team, to make educationally sound decisions.

As new classes are formed, the following factors are considered to ensure proper balance.
·         Academic abilities
·         Social/Behavior Needs
·         Special Needs
·         Current Teacher Input
·         Boy/Girl Ratio
·         Parent Input

Each classroom is a small community. We believe the classrooms need to represent the various social, academic and physical needs of all our students.

Your input will be one of the factors we consider when it comes time to compile our class lists. On the form you will be asked to provide insights about your child's academic and social needs. We ask that this input be a description of your child not a request for a specific teacher. We also ask that you use this form for input, as to not rely on a conversation with a staff member. Any forms with a request for specific teachers will be returned.

It is not necessary to fill out an input form.  However, if you wish to, the forms are now available HERE: If you chose to complete a form, please send it via email to Mr. Clark or mail the document to our school (11125 162nd Avenue NE, Redmond, WA 98052) by Monday, May 4th.

As we all want what's best for every child here at Rockwell, I am pleased that we can work together as a team in such an important process.

Sincerely,
math

RUNNING CLUB!

Hi kids!!!

Even though our schools are closed and there isn't Running Club for the remainder of the school year, I hope ALL of our Rockwell kids are getting outside and playing, exercising and RUNNING! On Ms. Cottom's PowerSchool Learning page there is a section/tab for Running Club (you must be logged in to view). If you would like to continue Running Club on your own, there is a link to download the Running Club punch cards to track your progress.  There are enough punch cards to copy for your whole family!!! Sorry, I won't be able to give out our popular toe tokens, but I'm with you all in heart! ️If you would like to know your total laps from Fall Running Club, please email Ms. Cottom and she will give you your total scores.

I would love to share pictures of kids running... with PARENT PERMISSION ONLY! Upload and send pictures to Ms. Cottom and she will post on the Running Club page. We have one student that has already completed her marathon punch card for spring. Congratulations to Nora Markiewicz in Mr. McElrea's Kindergarten class! Check it out on the Running Club page!!!

A NOTE FROM OUR COUNSELOR

We recognize that this a difficult time for everyone as we are all adjusting to this new way of living. For some families in our community, the impact is even greater with the loss of jobs or income. Thankfully, there are many agencies within our community that are working tirelessly to provide financial, medical, and food related supports to families. If you would like more information about supports that may be available for your family, please contact our school counselor, Kristin Bauer: 425-936-2675,  kbauer@lwsd.org .
