discoverthelawDISCOVER THE LAW PROGRAM WITH STUDENT LEGAL SERVICES

Discover the Law is a legal education program comprised of a series of 40+ workshops on law-related topics.  It is designed to educate students about their rights and responsibilities, inform them about different areas of law, provide tips on how to jump start their career whether in law or another profession, and teach practical ways to stay savvy and safe.

All currently-registered UC San Diego students, including graduate and professional students, are invited to participate in Discover the Law, regardless of academic or professional interests. This is a great opportunity for students thinking of applying to law school, but students need not be considering a career in law to participate. Discover the Law is not offered for academic credit.

You may wish to participate in Discover the Law because:
* By attending just four of the 41 workshops on 36 different topics, you will earn a certificate that demonstrates your commitment to learning more about the law and law-related issues.
* You will gain practical knowledge that will help you avoid legal problems.
* You will enhance your resume or graduate school application.
* You will get to connect with professionals and other students interested in law and law-related topics.
* It's free, and you don't have to leave campus to participate!

Workshop topics include criminal law, tenant's rights, the law school application process, employee rights, traffic citations, patent law and many more! Sign up now for available workshops!

SROPp2020 SUMMER RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES PROGRAM (SROP)
columbiaCOLUMBIA BUSINESS SCHOOL 2020 SUMMER RESEARCH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

C olumbia Business School seeks applicants for the 2020 Summer Research Internship Program.  This highly selective program provides interns an opportunity to work with Columbia Business School's faculty on a research project in finance, economics, marketing, management, decision sciences, operations, accounting, or data analytics.

Under the guidance of a faculty mentor, most interns generally work on one research project. The work may include literature reviews, data collection and cleaning, web scraping, statistical analysis, and in some cases, contribution to a final publication. Behavioral interns may be staffed on multiple projects: conducting literature reviews, coding data, performing statistical analyses, and running experiments with the Behavioral Research lab. All interns will present their final results to faculty at the end of the project.

The program will run from June 1, 2020 through August 1, 2020 (final dates TBD). On-campus housing and a stipend will be provided.

Successful Applicants

This is a multi-disciplinary program and candidates from all backgrounds, including business, statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, the physical sciences, and the social and behavioral sciences, are encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in applicants who are underrepresented minorities.

Prospective interns should demonstrate an enthusiasm for research and intellectual curiosity. They are expected to have excellent communication skills, basic knowledge of statistics and/or econometrics, and familiarity with statistical and computational software packages (e.g., Matlab, R, STATA, SPSS) and scripting languages such as Python or R. Candidates interested in working with behavioral researchers should have experience conducting experiments and coding data.
