The prevailing challenge for many school leaders is ensuring equity for all - which is an issue that drew me to high school. As principals, we are charged with breaking the cycle of poverty or perpetuating the cycle of poverty - while simultaneously ensuring guaranteed access to challenge opportunities.

Why are these mutually exclusive? Why don't these seem to intersect when we talk about equity and access? Why does poverty continue to be treated exclusive of access to challenging opportunities? We have homeless students that are gifted - but because of their life circumstance - maybe never receive the services they need because they are moving from school to school.

Let's re-frame the discussion by removing poverty from the equation (not removing services, however) and just do what's right and meaningful for each student so they achieve their personal best.

With Phoenix Pride,

Mr. Doug Loftus

Spirit Week Highlights

We recently held our Spirit Week Pep Rally. The students and teachers had a terrific time. Some of the activities the students experienced were ping pong, basketball, and teachers getting a pie in the face! Mr. Roberts (just below) and Mrs. Singh (seated above) were gracious enough to volunteer for the pie event. We think the students' reaction to Mrs. Singh's experience says it all!

Harland Sanders On Achievement
I made a resolve then that I was going to amount to something if I could. And no hours, nor amount of labor, nor amount of money would deter me from giving the best that there was in me. And I have done that ever since, and I win by it.

If you're trying to be funny, you're not. If you're trying to be profound, you sound silly. Just relax and trust your normal reactions.
