Hands-On Learning
All Saints students have been busy this first quarter. Here are just a few of the hands-on experiences teachers have provided so far this school year.
Dissection Club
Middle School Science teacher, Mrs. Rasmussen, leads students in a new after-school enrichment activity, Dissection Club. Middle school students take an active role in learning anatomy and lab skills through the science of dissection. The club members use lab tools to cut into specimens like frogs, starfish, owl pellets, organs, and more in order to study their internal parts.
Fire Department Visit
Kindergarten and first grade had the pleasure of a visit with one of our favorite community helpers, firefighters from Richmond City Fire Department. The firefighters said this was the most "well informed" group they had ever worked with! The students loved interacting with the firefighters, shaking their hands, exploring the fire truck, and hearing the sirens.
Williams Family Farm
All Saints' garden is dormant this year due to the impending construction. Luckily, Ms. Williams, All Saints' P.E. and Technology teacher, tends a community farm, the Williams Family Farm. Kindergarten and 5th grade students each took trips to the city farm. They learned about planting and harvesting and put in a little "sweat equity" pulling weeds and harvesting vegetables. Afterward, students tasted the "fruits of their labor," including tasting
lima beans, string beans and yellow wax beans for their differences
