Climate Action Recommendations for a Low-Carbon Future
UBCM has released its recommendations on how British Columbia's local governments can move towards a low-carbon future. Developed by UBCM's Special Committee on Climate Action and approved by the UBCM Executive, the recommendations outline concrete actions that can be taken for buildings, transportation, solid waste, resilience, land use-planning, social mobilization and governance. UBCM Executive Meeting highlights
The newly constituted UBCM Executive held its first, quarterly committee and board meetings virtually over November 17-20. The meeting set priorities and work plans for UBCM's subcommittees for the coming year. The Executive as a whole also reviewed and adopted priorities for the year ahead. With all appointments now confirmed, 16 of the 21 positions are now held by women. A full list of Executive members can be found on the UBCM website. Read more

COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream
On December 1, 2020, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Emergency Management BC announced the launch of the new $136 million COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream (CVRIS) under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. Read more

New Flood Hazard Mitigation funding
The Province has announced a new one-time funding program, the Adaptation, Resilience & Disaster Mitigation (ARDM) Program, to fund structural and natural infrastructure projects that address the risk of flooding and flood-related hazards up to a value $10 million. The deadline for applications is January 11, 2021. Read more

Small and Medium-Sized Business Recovery Grant
Small and medium sized businesses - comprising over 98% of all businesses in BC - have been hit hard by COVID-19. In response, the Province has launched the Small and Medium-Sized Business Recovery Grant program. The Program will invest up to $300 million in targeted financial support for some of the hardest hit businesses in BC. Read more
