I am pleased to present Melinda Choi and David Giunta to you as candidates to serve on the Mariners Christian School Board of Trustees. The purpose of the MCS Board is to secure the school's fiscal health, appoint and evaluate the Head of School, and ensure the school fulfills its stated mission. Information regarding the Board is available on our website at the "About MCS" section.
We believe Melinda and David will bring a wealth of experience to the Board that will help us fulfill our duties with faithfulness and excellence. However, before any candidate is approved for the Board, it is our practice to send a notice to the MCS Community to determine if there are any opinions relative to either candidate's suitability.
Please contact me on or before May 13, 2019 at mcsboard@marinerscs.org if you have any feedback.
Sincerely,
Brian Darrow

Melinda Choi Biography
Danny and Melinda Choi have been married 22 years and have 5 children: Taegan (MCS Class of 2016), Zeke (MCS Class of 2019), Dylann (MCS Class of 2020), Bennett (MCS Class of 2022), and Nixon (MCS Class of 2025). They are deeply grateful their children attend MCS and consider it a gift to have them raised with a Christ-centered education.
The Choi family enjoys spending time together, whether it be snuggling their Yorkies, Sugar and Spice, or exploring the amazing world God has created. Fiji has a special place in their hearts and they support the nation by working with Give Clean Water to provide sustainable clean water to rural villages. As a family, they attend the W Church in Newport Beach.
As a couple, they have served as high school and college leaders as well as premarital counselors. Melinda has her BA in English from UCI and is passionate about mentoring young women and single mothers as they pursue Jesus with their whole hearts. She loves her family and considers it her dream "job" to be a wife and mom. Melinda is humbled and honored to serve on the MCS Board.
David and Beth have been married for 18 years and have five children, including three at MCS: Kiana (MCS Class of 2020), Kamryn (MCS Class of 2022), and Micah (MCS Class of 2027). Their oldest daughter, Kayla, obtained her Master's in Occupational Therapy from USC and their oldest son, Dylan, attends CDMHS where he receives special education for Down Syndrome.
David earned a B.A. from Ohio University where he graduated
cum laude in Accounting and Business Law. Beth graduated from San Diego State and received her Master's in Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific.
David commenced his career as a CPA auditing public companies with Arthur Andersen, the world's largest accounting firm in the world at the time. David parlayed this experience in the private sector by transitioning to full balance sheet financial advisement for high net worth individuals. Currently, David is the Managing Partner of BlackPlum Partners, a private wealth management and alternative investments company.
Outside of his career, David enjoys spending time with his family and pursuing philanthropic initiatives. David serves on the Board of Directors for the Down Syndrome Foundation of Orange County, a cause that is close to his heart. David and Beth have been ardent advocates for the integration and mainstreaming of children with special needs.
David also serves on the MCS Finance Committee and is eager to serve on the Board of Trustees. David is passionate to serve the Lord in the capacity of a Board member. He hopes to use his testimony, his experience as a parent at MCS for the past eight years, and his financial and business acumen to serve the school with humility and in any way that God wants to use him to help maintain and strengthen the spiritual core and academic excellence that set MCS apart.
The Giunta family regularly attends Watermark Church, a Mariners Church plant started by Pastor Bucky
Dennis. They reside in the One Ford Road community of Newport Beach.

Welcome to the Jungle! The 5th Annual Safari Day is the culmination event of a thematic unit in which the children study the habitat of the rainforest and the creatures that reside there. Our TK students have had fun learning about the rainforest through song, arts and crafts, literature both non-fiction and fiction, videos of animals in the wild, and engaging emergent writing activities to enhance their learning. It is fascinating to see how God perfectly designed each animal for their habitat and equipped them with special features to survive in the jungle.
For the past month, the two Transitional Kindergarten classrooms have literally transformed into a jungle. On Safari Day, students and TK parents are invited to go on a hunt to locate the escaped animals. They quietly scour the campus with binoculars in full safari attire to find the creatures. Then they share facts they have learned about each animal. The day also includes a visit from Prehistoric Pets! They bring in safari reptiles and creatures for students to learn about and even touch. The day concludes with a safari feast sampling all sorts of Amazon food: gorilla munch, kiwis, banana chips, coconut water and much more! This event has become a well-loved tradition at MCS that students eagerly anticipate and one that surely will be remembered for years to come!

OC Marathon
MCS ASB students represented our school and our Savior well last Sunday morning, as they sacrificed to be at the OC Marathon at 5:00 am to serve the marathon runners! The students wrote encouraging messages and scriptures using chalk on the ground and making signs to be held up as the runners passed by. They also handed out cups of water to hundreds of runners, as our water station was the halfway mark to the finish line! It was a morning full of encouraging, dancing, cheering, and spreading joy...and our students were honored to do so! Shout out to our favorite runner who passed us, Mrs. Sanita!!!
