Supervisors Increase Funding Thru Add-Backs 
Advocates deliver knitted hearts and messages to the Supervisors 














Thanks to everyone who worked so hard - the Budget Justice Coalition, Senior and Disability Action, Coalition of Agencies Serving the Elderly, Human Services Network and many others.  Congratulations to us all!
The Board of Supervisors will vote on a final budget in July. It currently includes:
-$165,000 to stabilize existing Community Connectors     networks and add a new network in the Excelsior           /Crocker Amazon neighborhood. 
- $145,000/year for Senior Choirs. 
- $200,000/year for technology - to improve internet at    SF Connected sites and expand bi-lingual training 
- $175,000/year for dementia care programs
- $300,000/year for group vans 
- Funding for mental health services for seniors and for     long-term HIV survivors
- Increased funding to Residential Care Facilities 
- Funding for Non-profit City Contractor to comply with new minimum wage           requirements and increased cost of doing business. 
And a whole list of other increases for senior and disability services that resulted from advocacy with the Mayor and members of the Board of Supervisors

Housing Bond and Senior Subsidies Advance 
A $600 million affordable housing bond measure is headed for the  Nov ember ballot, including dedicated funding for senior housing. In addition, the yearly budget, headed for final approval in July, includes a total of $8 million for rents subsidies and relief for the very low income seniors, adults with disabilities and other in need residents. 
Join Mayor London Breed & Supervisor Yee for a press event on  Tuesday, July 9 at 11:00 on the steps of City Hall.

Wed., July 24 2:30 to 4:30

The Journey to Safe Sidewalks Is Not Easy 
We have our report back from MTA on the list of problems just on the block between  CLC Office and the Market/South Van Ness transit hub. But now the challenge is putting pressure on getting the improvements made.  As a start, Jennifer Walsh has created a Facebook group to share pictures and report progress.  Click here to join and stay up-to-date on progress. Aging While Black Forum
 
The tradition of the Aging While Black forum continues, co-sponsored by IT Bookman Center and CLC.  The theme - Aging in place with an effort to reduce health disparities.   Forum speakers included  Pamela Ratliff , Educational Initiatives & Partnerships, Stanford Cancer Institute;  Sherri Sawyer, CLC Francis Goldsmith Vision & Hearing Initiative;  Jessie Johnson , Clinical Practice Manager, Hearing and Speech Center.   To get on the list for future activities, contact Deb Glen (415)846-7717 or debglen1@gmail.com.
Emergency Preparedness Requires Teamwork 
Sherri Sawyer, Director of CLC's Vision and Hearing Initiative, was the leader of a workshop hosted by Bayview Networks for Elders.  It included an Emergency Preparedness Backpack loaded with key supplies.  This was supported by a specific grant from the Metta Fund. CLC staff members Teresa Garcia and Alan Kaufman helped make each bag was fully supplied.  Noah, son of CLC Finance person Jim Battaglia, got them loaded and ready for transport.  Over 40 seniors went home more prepared for their efforts. 

On Lok and Always Active Thank Partners 

The Always Active Program brought participants tog e ther from across the City to  move together and to celebrate the growth of this important wellness program. The event also honored Supervisor Yee, Linda Lau and the Department of Aging and Adult Services, and the Community Living Campaign for their support in expanding Alway Active trainings to new sites cross the City.  If you would like to participate in the great program, check out a site near you on their website or call  415-550-2265.

Job Fair Focused On Older Adults Set for August 5

If you are serious about getting a full time or part-time job and have skills and tale
nts you are ready to share, save this date and be prepared to meet potential employers and perhaps land an interview that day.  The event is being sponsored by the Office of Economic and Workforce Development in partnership with the Dignity Fund Coalition and a network of other organizations. AgeIn was the name of the event hosted last month at the Ed Roberts Campus in Berkeley, hosted by At Home with Growing Older. Ruth's Table Invites You To Come Celebrate 
Ruth's Table began as an arts initiative integrated into Bethany Center, an affordable senior living community.  
On July 11th from 6:00 to 9:00 , Ruth's Table is celebrating its grand re-opening at a newly dedicated gallery space located at 3160 21st St. A reception launches a year-long exploration with the new building will serve as a gallery and creative learning space where people of all ages can come together to learn, connect, and create. Murals Celebrate A Community Coming Together 

This year, On Lok's 30th Street Senior Center is celebrating our 40th anniversary of serving seniors in San Francisco.  On Saturday, July 13 from 2:00 to 5:00, they are holding a Mural Unveiling and Open House at our Center 225 30th Street.  Free and open to the public - ride sharing or public transportation encouraged.   A  beautiful new mural, which is a central feature of our garden, was created by the Center's senior community in partnership with Precita Eyes artists.  A flyer with more info is attached RSVP on Eventbrite  o r contact  hpacheco@onlok.org  or (628) 208-8447.
NERT Training is Coming to the OMI   
One way to be really prepared to help yourself and your community in an emergency is to attend a NERT training.  This stands for Neighborhood Emergency Response Team. You will meet your neighbors and learn where to go and what to do should an earthquake or other emergency strike.  You can sign up for the OMI session set to start on August 6, 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. at Lutheran Church for Our Savior at 1011 Garfield Street.  Sign up through Eventbrite here.  Download a flyer with more info here.

Food for Thought About Living A Long Life 
Stanford's Center on Longevity is an intriguing site as we think about the potential provided by longer lives and better health.  As their website states:   "By fostering dialogue and collaborations among typically disconnected worlds, the Center aims to develop workable solutions for urgent issues confronting the world as the population ages. With these collaborations, we aim to redesign how we live our lives so that the great potential of a longer life is fully realized."  
1000's of people now eligible for CalFresh 
Starting June 1, 2019, older adults and people with disabilities who receive Supplement Security Income (SSI)/State Supplementary Payment (SSP) are able to receive CalFresh benefits (formerly known as food stamps). The current average cash benefit will be $130 per person, though the exact amount varies depending on one's individual situation.
