The High Priority of Children - Terumah Haftarah

This week's Terumah Haftorah, I Kings 5:26-6:13,  describes the building of King Solomon's Temple - a huge project spanning many years. Work requirements for the laborers restricted them to one month at the work site, then two months off to be home seeing to their family responsibilities.

No matter that this work schedule delayed the completion of the Temple's construction. The Jerusalem Talmud, states: "Rabbi Avin said: 'Being fruitful and multiplying' is more dear to the Holy One, blessed be He, than the Beit  Hamikdash."  Terumah Haftarah Companion

Simply stated, ongoing construction of the Jewish nation superseded timely building of the Temple. Judaism places a high priority on children and families because serving HaShem requires continuation of Jewish culture. We teach our children to be aware of God's presence in our lives, to live our lives in service to Him through mitzvot and good deeds grounded in love, compassion, and respect for life.

Jews have a special responsibility to provide safe harbor for pre- born children from the womb into a loving home. Choosing a life saving option for an unexpected or inconvenient gift from God fulfills our duty to the ongoing creation of the Jewish nation, for it is in each one of us that the spirit of HaShem resides.

We're always looking for ways to educate Jews on this fundamental principle. Denied access to conventional Jewish venues has never deterred us. Soon, we'll be expanding our outreach with a Sunday morning live streaming program called Jewish Pro-Life. It will be broadcasted to social media, where you will be able to participate via chat! The audio will be uploaded as a podcast, too! Our studio is nearly completed so stay tuned to learn of our launch date!

May there be abundant peace from Heaven, and good life upon us and upon all Israel. Amen.
