Spotlight: IFSW Social Work in Action Series
IFSW Social Work in Action Series: Social Work Beyond Borders
The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) has created a publishing space for social workers to report and reflect on their practice contexts through Social Work Beyond Borders Volume 2. Practitioner perspectives are often overlooked by academic publishers that require a particular writing style and a requirement that the contribution relates to other academic writings. This at times can be different from the daily realities of social work which brings together the unique aspirations and challenges in people’s lives, with the profession´s research, theory, principles and also social worker´s own practice wisdom.

The Social Work in Action Series enables practitioners to publish accounts of their work and their realities, adding further shared-learning opportunities as globally we collaborate to advance the social work profession and achieve social transformation. The use of Indigenous knowledge in social work action is at the heart of this second volume in the series of social work reports from practice.

A common complaint of researchers (especially first-generation) is that they have a hard time explaining to friends and family what they do in the lab. Many young students enter research and are quickly discouraged because the research lab they start in was not how they thought research is. Some students do not have the opportunity to rotate into different labs and see the variety of research and approach to research that is out there. Many middle/high school students do not have an opportunity to visit a college/university and research labs. This Initiative aims to curb this sometimes limiting factor by bringing the lab/research to life without ever having to leave your computer!

Resources
The University of North Carolina Office of Ethics and Policy. recently hosted a book talk with Dr. Yoosun Park, faculty at Smith College of Social Work, on her book and research titled:  Facilitating Injustice: The Complicity of Social Workers in the Forced Removal and Incarceration of Japanese Americans. Dr. Yoosun Park's book helps to understand the ways in which the Social Work profession has and continues to perpetuate racism.

Park’s scholarship, framed within the broad substantive area of immigration, pursues two overlapping lines of inquiry: social work’s history with immigrants and the issue of immigration.

"This document was initially directed at ways for how to turn fieldwork that was initially planned as using face-to-face methods into a more ‘hands-off’ mode. However, people have added useful material about ‘born digital’ research (content already generated on the internet by online interactions), which provides an alternative source of social research materials if researchers decide to go down that path."

Ms Oduala was one of the first to take to the streets after a video went viral of a man allegedly being killed by the notorious Special Anti-Robbery Squad (Sars), sparking what became known as the EndSars demonstrations.

Today she is part of a panel in Lagos sitting at a judicial inquiry into police abuse - one of the key demands of the protesters after the president disbanded the unit..."

The funeral on Monday, scaled down due to coronavirus protocols and attended only by Fakhrizadeh’s family and some military commanders, was held at the defence ministry headquarters in Tehran..."
