National contest winner from Wisconsin
|
|
We are incredibly excited and proud that a Wisconsin high school student was chosen as a grand-prize winner in the national Create Real Impact contest!
The grand prize is a
$1,500 educational grant for this winning entry.
Create Real Impact is sponsored by
Impact Teen Drivers
,
an organization we are proud to partner with. The contest encourages peer-to-peer messages and creative expression from students to help deter distracted and reckless driving — the number one killer of young drivers. The contests invited students ages 14-22 to offer their artistic solutions to this critical teen driving danger through essays, artwork, videos and music. More than 1,300 submissions were received and winners were determined by a panel of judges and by online voting.
The winning piece can be viewed all with the other winning entries.

Keep prom and graduation season safe
|
|
Prom and graduation season is an exciting time for teens. However, it also brings some challenges for teen drivers. Being nervous, excited or sleep-deprived, driving at night and having friends in the car puts teen drivers at risk of being in a motor vehicle crash. Be sure to protect yourself, your friends and your family by making safe choices when in a vehicle. Avoid distractions, get plenty of sleep, avoid impairment and make a plan for how you will safely get to and from all events. Parents, talk to your teens about their plans and offer to help them get home safely. A
parent-teen driving agreement
can help facilitate this conversation. Download one here.

Additionally, to help reduce motorcycle collisions
and injuries and to help save lives, NHTSA has launched the Get Up to Speed on Motorcycles campaign to help motorists understand standard motorcycle driving behaviors and to learn how to drive safely around motorcycles on our roadways.

100 Deadliest Days — Memorial Day to Labor Day
|
|
According to AAA, deadly car crashes involving drivers between the ages of 16 and 19 jump an average of 15 percent during the period of time between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Because of this trend, AAA calls this the “100 Deadliest Days” for teen drivers. There are several factors that make this a dangerous time:
- More teens are on the road since school is out for the summer
- Teens are more likely to have their friends in the car with them, which is a dangerous distraction
- Many teens are distracted by cell phone use, either texting or using social media behind the wheel
- Make safe choices when driving or riding in a vehicle this summer. Let’s work together to eliminate the “100 Deadliest Days”!

We have several GDL resources available for you: videos, wallet cards, fact sheets, etc. These resources break dow
n the specifics of Wisconsin’s GDL law in an easily understandable way and illustrate why it is so important to our teen drivers. To get your free GDL resources, visit the
