Dear Parents-
The feast of
Our Lady of the Rosary
was celebrated Monday, October 7, and our students prayed a living rosary in the courtyard this morning to honor that feast. The rosary is such a beautiful way to meditate on the life of Christ, while honoring Our Holy Mother. The rosary reminds us how intimately entwined mothers are in the lives of their children, and it is no different in the Holy Family.
On Friday, October 11, we will be half-way through the first trimester! Parents should log on to the PowerSchool to
access student grades
. To access student grades, click on the ' i ' under Trimester 1 for each subject. If you notice that there are areas where your child could improve, now is the time to partner with the teachers to make the necessary adjustments. There is plenty of time to see significant improvements, if needed, before the trimester runs out. In addition, if you have questions about your child’s
SCANTRON
report that went home last week, (students in grades 3 through 7), please reach out to your child’s teacher.
As part of
good safety practices
, as well as tightening things up for DFE, I want to remind volunteers that they must be accounted for at all times, including fire drills. To help with this, volunteers are asked to sign-in, and then report immediately to the volunteer position. Once the volunteering is finished, please sign-out, and exit the building. If you bump into a friend, and want to visit for a few minutes, please come to the front office lobby area, or you are free to visit outside the school building. Please don’t visit in the halls, where it is more difficult to account for you. If you find yourself involved in a fire drill, please exit the building in the company of the group you are working with, and stay with them until the drill is concluded. Your teacher will be able to account for you. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Brother Zachary held a very successful
Odyssey of the Mind
parent meeting last week. However, if you were unable to attend the meeting, you are not closed out! To register, or for more information, please reach out to Brother Zack at
odysseyofthemind@sjschoolva.org
. Brother Zack is also looking for parent volunteers. Odyssey of the Mind is a highly acclaimed program that allows children to develop creative-problem solving skills that are so critical for success at the next level.
As I mentioned at the start of the year, all families are invited to participate in the
Diocese of Arlington- Office of Catholic Schools Family or Parent/Guardian Survey for St. Joseph Catholic School.
Use this link to access the survey
,
which will remain open until October 14 at 5:00PM. Please take advantage of this opportunity!

Message from Br. Zachary
|
|
Parents,
Thank you to all of you who have contacted me or met with me in person concerning your child's/children's interest in the Saint Joseph Odyssey of the Mind club! We are shaping up to have a great number of participants. Before I put a final cut on registration (which I will set for Thursday night at midnight), I just wanted to send one final reminder message in case anyone missed the original invitation to register via email at
odysseyofthemind@sjschoolva.org
. Also, if you are interested in coaching or supervising your son/daughter's team in any way, please let me know! No prior experience necessary, I promise. Looking forward to getting underway!
Blessings,
Br. Zachary

St. Joseph Catholic School is very fortunate to offer morning and afternoon care for students, and the extended day program has grown over the years!
This year, we have reached our capacity based on our state license, and unfortunately, we can no longer accept extended day registration forms for this school year.
We are looking to hire additional staff to meet our licensing requirements. Once that is accomplished, we will be able accept additional students.
Parents of students who are registered on a "drop-in" basis are asked to call extended day by noon of the day of the anticipated drop-in.

It's hard to imagine Winter uniforms when we've been having warm weather lately! How are those sweaters looking? Do you have the appropriate shirts needed?
Is it time for a Flynn O'Hara run?
Winter uniforms will be in effect on
Tuesday, October 15.
Please keep in mind that if the weather is warm/hot, students will not
be required to wear their sweaters and/or P.E. sweatshirts/sweatpants! We will go week by week in terms of the winter uniform. If the weather is warm -- no need for warm weather uniform pieces (sweater, P.E.sweatshirt, or P.E. sweatpants).
