"The Gender Equity and Reconciliation International training has been AMAZING and the transformations REAL."
~ Dr. Karambu Ringera,
Founder of International Peace Initiatives, Meru, Kenya

This video is the Women's Honoring Ceremony for the men. Absolutely beautiful! In the song the women are singing, each man's name is sung...and loosely translated it means , "Have you ever seen such a man as (man's name)? There is no other man such as ______. Thank God for ____ ."

Gender Equity and Reconciliation International 2018 - 2019 Trainees

We had a rich and delightful week of learning and coming together as a community for Module 3 of the United States Gender Equity and Reconciliation International (GERI) Professional Immersion Training. In this very hands-on learning environment, the trainees themselves stepped into facilitation of the GERI processes - working together as co-gender teams and developing the skills and sensitivities to facilitate the tender and sometimes charged areas of gender and sexuality.

We're very enthused to continue this training and to expand our networks of GERI facilitators!

" I was surprised and amazed at the power of simply being witnessed,"
said one participant following a short experiential taste of the Gender Equity and Reconciliation International process.  Another woman shared her realization of the gender-based lack of safety she had felt throughout her life, and her re-energized vision for a safe and gender-healed world.

Beth Blissman, Chaya Pamula, and Phil Vivirito

Deep gratitude to Phil Vivirito, GERI Trainer, and Chaya Pamula, GERI board member, for their presentation of the GERI methodology on March 15 at the NGO Forum of the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women conference in New York. Their engaging and active session brought together 19 women and men to learn about and experience the GERI process.

Many thanks to Loretto Community for co-sponsoring this presentation with us and to Beth Blissman, NGO UN Representative from Loretto Community who provided such tremendous support.

" One boy stood before the girls [and other boys in the workshop] and apologized for all the harm that men and boys have done to women and girls. I thought, if a 15-year-old boy can say sorry on behalf of all men, what does this say to men? GERI works! Even for 15 year olds it works!! Amazing!

Opening prayers for the workshop

Earlier this month, 57 youth, aged 15-17, from Pune, India completed the three-day introductory training with Gender Equity and Reconciliation International (GERI).

This inspiring group of young people shared vividly their life experiences of gender, and listened with great care to each other's stories of pain, fear, and challenge of growing up as young women and men. The sharings across genders were particularly deep, and many of the participants were brought to tears by stories of deep pain and wounding experienced by their fellow young people.

This deep sharing and absorbing of each other's stories was then reflected in the closing ceremonies, which were beautiful and joyful celebrations of sharing and appreciation for all that the other gender group brought forward.

Check out the pictures and videos from the program below. This video is group chant/prayer from the opening invocation of
the workshop.

GERI's series of 12 workshops with the University of Western Cape in South Africa continued with an inspiring group of 20 young people.

Engaging cross-gender activity

It's beautiful to see the process unfold in the university context, and to witness the deep and courageous sharings of the challenges students have faced - absent fathers, uncles, brothers, and parents, losing loved ones, being alone, and feeling fearful in life. It was such grace to witness how empowering the truth-telling was for all these young adults, and to see the beautiful and touching ceremonies the students created to honor each other and conclude the workshop.

Deep gratitude to Desireé English, Louis Gaum, Vuyo Koyana, Xolile Pro Zulani for their skillful facilitation and holding space for this workshop.
