What to expect: The two-day workshop will provide in-depth safety training for individuals designated as the affiliate’s “Competent Person” as defined by the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA requires that every build has a Competent Person (CP) on-site to help recognize unsafe situations and to make necessary corrections in recognized high hazard areas. All affiliates are required to demonstrate that they have a certified Competent Person to be eligible for select funding and programs.

Schedule:

  • Tuesday, June 25: Registration opens at 8 a.m.; workshops from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; lunch included
  • Wednesday, June 26: Workshops from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; lunch included

The training will cover these topics:

  • Leading Volunteers on a Construction Site
  • Fall Protection
  • Scaffolding
  • General Jobsite Electrical Safety
  • Stairways and Ladders
  • PPE and tool safety

Additional information for registrants:

  • Each participant is required to pass written exams during each segment of the training program with (70% or higher score). Re-testing can be offered; see instructor for more information. Laptops are not required for this course but may be useful study tools after the first day of training.
