Students involved in activities show higher GPAs
Board hears annual report on athletics and activities
In his annual report to the Board, Ray-Pec Athletic/Activities Director Tom Kruse showed how the grades of students involved in a sport or activity continue to be higher than grades of students who do not participate in an activity.
Kruse shared the presentation at Thursday night's Board meeting.
Here is a comparison of cumulative GPA averages during 2018-2019:
- 3.62 for students who participate in scholar bowl.
- 3.45 for students who participate in drama.
- 3.33 for students who participate in band.
- 3.14 for students who participate in athletics.
- 2.98 for all students enrolled at the high school.
- 2.95 for students who participate in choir.
- 2.77 for students who do not participate in a MSHSAA sport or activity.
Through special activities, Ray-Pec teams, clubs, and organizations raised more than $37,500 for cancer charities, Special Olympics, and other causes.
Kruse shared accomplishments from the 2019-2020 school year, including band and choir honors, theatre awards, and athletic achievements. He reported on facility improvements, including updates to the main gym, new turf, track, scoreboard, and video board at Panther Stadium, and a new wrestling scoreboard. The Panther Pride Marching Band will perform in new uniforms this fall, and the high school auditorium has a new sound board and new wireless microphones.
Starting this fall, the Suburban Gold Conference will increase from six to eight schools with the addition of both Liberty and Liberty North high schools.
