Great American Outdoors Act Passes in US Senate

We all did it! The US Senate just passed the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA), which fully and permanently funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund!! Thank you to @SenatorTester, @SteveDaines, and all 73 Senators who voted to pass this legislation! On to the House of Representatives!

Montana Audubon has produced a short video urging Congress to pass the bill, featuring Billings resident and community leader Mike Penfold, whose father helped to create the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

Save the Date - "GEMS" Photography Workshop

Raptors are fast, often cast in shadow, and seen at a great range of distances. Therefore, photographing them presents the artist with unique challenges despite spectacularly scenic backdrops. We are pleased to offer you an incredible chance to learn how to photograph raptors like a pro. Join our GEMS (Golden Eagle Migration Survey) program for a raptor photography workshop in the Big Belts   this fall, September 26 & 27.

Eastern Montana Citizen Scientists Needed

Join us for a Swift Night out!

Chimney swifts are fascinating birds that can be found in your backyard or, more accurately, a nearby chimney! However, little is known about their distribution in the state. We are looking for eager volunteers that want to learn about chimney swifts and help locate them. Our event dates and locations are July 2nd in Lewistown and July 7th in Billings, find more information through the link below. If you are unable to attend these dates, there is an online training you can go through here! Please contact Carmen Borchelt at Carmen@mtaudubon.org for any questions.

Glad to Be Back at the Montana Audubon Center

This winter, our spring ANTS (Audubon Naturalists in the Schools) season held promise of being the busiest yet, with 84 scheduled field trips during April and May. However, Center programs were canceled or postponed due to Covid-19. Over the last several months, we've kept in close contact with participating schools, as well as our Fledgling and Homeschool students, offering virtual resources. Also, our volunteer restoration program provided a safe outdoor reprieve for those who needed it.

We invited our Fledglings Preschoolers and Homeschoolers back on May 11th with safety precautions in place. Hearing the squeals and laughter from good friends once again was a priceless gift for all of us. Better yet we were able to continue with a modified preschool graduation ceremony, where 26 students got their wings to fly off to new adventures.

Phase 2 reopening began June 1st, and with it came hope for "normalcy" at the Center. Our 2020 Summer Adventure Camps began June 8th, consisting of nine weeks and 34 different camps for kids from preschool to ninth grade. Community programs also resumed, in addition to private field trips. We are excited to be offering programming again!
