Many
picnic areas have reopened
on the Blue Ridge Parkway just in time to celebrate National Picnic Month in July! We are inviting you to put a new twist on the great tradition of summer picnics and support projects and programs on the Parkway. Through July 31, we invite you to host a
Picnic for the Parkway
— in-person or virtually.
It’s easy to host your own picnic with a purpose. Whether you plan a safe, face-to-face gathering at a Parkway picnic area, in your backyard, or get together via FaceTime or Zoom, you can show your commitment to the Parkway. Here’s how it works:
- Sign up on the official Picnic for the Parkway page as an individual or team.
- Invite your family and friends to participate in your picnic, and join you in making a donation to support the Parkway.
- To help spread the word about the picnic, post your fundraising page and fun pictures, recipes, and favorite picnic spots on social media using the hashtag #PicnicfortheParkway.
As a picnic host or donor, you can win prizes for raising or giving certain amounts, including a picnic blanket for raising or giving $469 - one dollar for every mile of the Parkway. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to connect with others who love the Parkway, and highlight your shared support for this national treasure.

Kids in Parks opens two new TRACK Trails
|
|
Families can add two new adventures to their summer plans with the opening of the Peak to Prosperity TRACK Trail in Little Mountain, S.C., and Charles D. Owen Park TRACK Trail in Swannanoa, N.C.
The
Peak to Prosperity TRACK Trail
is an easy 1-mile, out-and-back hike on a former railroad foundation. Crossing two trestles, hikers can enjoy great views of the Broad River and wildlife, and explore the amazing history of this short stretch of railroad with the new activity brochure.
At
Charles D. Owen Park
, the TRACK Trail follows the path around the ponds and meanders along the Swannanoa River. The new trailhead sign provides four activity guides that allow young hikers to learn about the natural features found along the trail.
