July 23-24, 2019 - Leading with an Equity Lens - Exploring CSTP's Teacher Leadership Framework:
If you've experienced CSTP's Teacher Leadership Framework before or not at all, you'll want to attend this exciting session to explore the improved Teacher Leadership Framework, which describes the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to be an effective teacher leader. During this session participants will analyze and reflect on their own strengths and create an action plan for their next steps on their leadership journey with an emphasis on equity. Participants will leave this session with a solid foundation for understanding teacher leadership, as well as materials and activities they can use with colleagues and teacher leadership opportunities to consider and explore.

July 24-25, 2019 -Setting the Stage for High-Functioning PLCs:
Effective PLCs start with developing relationships and structures to support adult learning. Participants will reflect on current PLCs structures and explore how to create and maintain a high functioning environment for professional learning. Building on CSTP's Teacher Leadership Framework, participants will delve into this work from a case study perspective to learn about culture, risk-taking and impact on student learning. Maximize this experience by attending with a team of teachers and administrators. Come ready to share PLC experiences, questions and dilemmas to practice learning from each other.

CSTP Receives College Spark Foundation Grant

We are excited to be one of 12 recipients of a 2019 College Spark Foundation Community Grant. In partnership with Tacoma Public Schools we will be working with math educators in two middle schools to grow instructional practice utilizing Tacoma's newly developed math instructional framework and refreshing PLC structures with teacher leadership knowledge and skills. The goal of the three-year project is to improve math achievement for middle school students. The project will kick off next school year (2019-20) and CSTP looks forward to learning and growing alongside Tacoma educators. Visit the College Spark website for more information on the Community Grants Program.
Transformative Learning Collaborative (TLC) for PLCs PLC

Do your PLCs or Learning Teams need a boost? Are you ready to deepen the impact of your collaborative learning? We are here to help!

CSTP is excited to offer several support options for schools and districts who want to develop high functioning collaborative groups. We understand that every context is unique and a one size fits all options doesn't always work. Because of this, our approaches to support differs according to your needs. Choose from customized on-site support, a network approach with TLC for PLCs or off-site professional learning opportunities such as Camp CSTP.

CSTP is launching the 2019-2020 Transformative Learning Collaborative to support high functioning Professional Learning Communities, (TLC) for PLCs.
Grounded in CSTP's Teacher Leadership Framework, the Carnegie Foundation's Improvement Science, and effective adult learning and PLCs, the network will grow the capacity of teacher leaders and administrators to support a culture of collaborative lea rning.

For more information, visit the CSTP website or contact Holli Hanson at [email protected].
Carnegie Foundation Summit on Improvement in Education

Left to right: Lisa Clarke, Sara Saldaña, and Lindsey Stevens
Lindsey Stevens, Director of Teacher Leadership and Learning at CSTP was fortunate enough to attend the 2019 Carnegie Foundation Summit on Improvement in Education in San Francisco earlier this month.  Lindsey partnered with Lisa Clarke from National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and Sara Saldaña from the Network To Transform Teaching to present a session on utilizing teacher leaders to introduce Improvement Science to educators and their practice.  The experience was energizing as she had an opportunity to be both a leader and a learner.  She was able to share with others as well as hone some of her Improvement Science skills and add to her knowledge. For more about CSTPs experience with Improvement Science and how we have been utilizing it with educators visit CSTP's Improvement Science webpage.

OSPI NBCT Facilitator TrainingNBCTFac

To ensure consistency across the state, facilitators of National Board are required to take Facilitator Training prior to hosting a cohort. This two day training hones facilitation knowledge and skills, provides a deeper understanding of the revised National Board process, as well as develops skills in working with adult learners.

This year, National Board Facilitator Training will also include a virtual Pre-Training component that is required for all attending the in-person event. The purpose for the Pre-Training is to equip facilitators with a baseline of prior knowledge to avoid the sit-and-get structure and provide more time for discourse among participants during face-to-face training. The suggested time for the Pre-Training is about 60 minutes depending on the participant's needs. Pre-Training will be hosted as course in the Canvas LMS, which all registrants will be invited to join by OSPI.

When: June 26-27, 2019
Where: Pasco, WA
Cost: $126

When: August 13-14, 2019
Where: Auburn, WA
Cost: $126

The Seattle Times is Looking for Student Contributors

The Seattle Times is running the 4th year of their Student Voices series. They are looking for high school and college students from around Washington State to increase the number of student perspectives published on education topics. This year they are seeking students with disabilities, English language learners, homeless students, students who have crossed paths with the justice system and kids who need more support than they are often given to reach academic success. Stories about nontraditional and special-education students will be prioritized, but they are accepting all kinds of ideas - as long as they have to do with schools and learning.
To learn how to apply visit the Seattle Times websitePlease share with students who may be interested.
Applications are due May 24 . If you have any questions, please contact Education Lab's Mohammed Kloub at [email protected], (206)-652-6595, or on Twitter  @LessIsMoh.
