Checking in....

A lot has changed since our last edition and I just wanted to check in with you.

Our lives have shifted in such a short amount of time and we are all working out how to navigate these choppy waters. And it's OK and normal to feel lost, anxious, scared, overwhelmed and grieve as we miss the way our lives used to be. Talk with your friends, family and community and share the way you feel, chances are, they are feeling something similar to you.

Much beauty still exists in this world and there are many things to be grateful and hopeful for. Neighbours reaching out to support each other with food drops, driveway drinks, teddy bear hunts and dinosaur walks are just some ideas communities have had to stay connected and brighten each others day. Its amazing how creative and supportive we can be when together we face a huge challenge.

Like a sunflower follows the sun across the day....turn your heart towards joy and beauty.
Where are they now??
A big 'hi' to you all from the environmental sustainability team at City of Marion. As you can see we are working from a desk at home or pretending to be on a pacific island, the backyard, the car and Oaklands wetland!

We are still keeping projects moving forward and communities supported, all while taking a crash course in keeping connected online.

As always, send through any ideas or even great things you have seen online that we could do to support our community in this time.

New online course aimed at reducing global warming

Have some free time? Why not take this free online course?

This online course is part of Pachamama Alliance’s  Drawdown Initiative —a series of workshops that supports participants in finding their unique contribution to reversing global warming.

The Reversing Global Warming online course is just 90-minutes long, and free to take. It’s filled with rich video content, interactive exercises, and will be the first course hosted on Pachamama Alliance’s  Global Commons online community , where participants can connect with others who are also working on solutions to address climate change.
Better bin service

Marion Council will have a new kerbside waste and recycling collection contractor starting from 1 May. Cleanaway will start collecting your waste, recycling and organics bins from this date, as well as the blue lidded public litter bins. The current waste collection contract with Solo Resource Recovery will end on the 30 April.

There will be no changes to the day your bins are collected, however the time your bins are emptied on collection day is likely to change.

To ensure your red, yellow and green bins are emptied, please place them out the evening prior or by 6am on your collection day.

The benefits of this new contract include:
  • New environmentally friendly garbage trucks with enhanced technology (including the trialling of electric trucks) to deliver the services.
  • Increased waste and recycling education to residents in a bid to reduce recycling contamination levels, and the volume of waste going to landfill.
  • Introduction of an online portal on City of Marion website for residents to request services.
Better tracking of garbage trucks to minimise the chance of not collecting bins.
Until 30 April, please contact Solo Resource Recovery if your bin is not collected, damaged or missing from a new residence you have just moved into, on:
Phone 8295 5077

From 1 May, please contact Cleanaway if your bin is not collected or damaged, on:
Phone 1800 777 844
