End of SJS Year Food Drive to Support the Ark

Shalom Everyone,

One important reason for requesting food items at this time is that over the summer donations to the Ark pantry decrease because schools of Jewish study do not meet.   We have found over the years that assigning the students, teachers and madrichim in each of our classes specific non-perishable food items leads to our collecting more.  According to the coordinator of this program at the Ark, the following are the items most needed by the Ark clients:
  • Torah Tots with a Twist (Newborn-3.5 years): gefilte fish
  • Gan (3.5 years-6 years): herbal tea (caffeinated or decaf)
  • Alef/Bet (1st-2nd Grades): pasta sauce
  • Gimel (3rd Grade): applesauce
  • Dalet (4th Grade): tuna
  • Hei (5th Grade): oatmeal (plain oatmeal is best, but any will be appreciated)
  • Vav & Zayin (6th & 7th Grades): soups (ie. Chicken soup with noodles or matzah balls, etc.)
  • Prozdor & Pardes (8th, 9th & 10th Grades): corn
  • Tichon (11th & 12th Grades): peas
Please note the following other important details:
  1. You are welcome and encouraged to bring in any of the items below.
  2. There will be marked boxes on top of the cabinets in classroom #5 in the SJS building.  For those younger students who don't typically go up to the second floor, a madrich/a can bring the items your students bring upstairs.
  3. All food brought in for this collection should be kosher.  Since we will not be opening the packages for our own use, please know that the Ark donates items without a hekhsher to nearby pantries that do not need the food to be kosher.  Examples of the most commonly acceptable hekhshers can be found via this link: http://www.kosher-directory.com/supervisions.htm
Thank you very much in advance on behalf of the clients at the Ark.

B'Shalom/בשלום
