If I had to "theme" this week's issue, I would say it is all about recognitions and accolades as we head into the first full school week of May. This has been a very successful year and we have experienced many impressive student and staff achievements. Several of these recent accomplishments are included below for our community.

There is an expression among New York advertising executives that says "the most powerful marketing tool in the world is the hand-written thank you note." I share that as this is the week set out across the United States each year to recognize educators and those in the schools that help to make them run professionally every day. Over the next few days, kindly take a moment to say thank you to a teacher or staff member that in your opinion has done a good job for your student with a hand-written note, email, or in person should you pass them on campus. It would mean a great deal during this special week. Thank you.

Enjoy your week and good luck to our Bears football team during their spring game vs. Lake Nona Thursday evening!

Teacher Appreciation Week

"Heros Sometimes Wear Hair Nets"
Cypress Creek's Dedicated Café Team

Every week this year, our café staff prepared thousands of breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and dinners for our students and faculty. While they are not in the classrooms providing instruction, their work is essential in providing a positive learning environment each school day. So here during this Teacher Appreciation Week, kindly also take a moment to offer a kind word of thanks for their service as they have showed up, every day, doing their best to provide healthy meals for our Bears. Thank you.

Bear Spotlight
Brandon Perez (Class of 2019)

Brandon Perez in his first year in JROTC, was recognized at the U.S. Navy JROTC ball with a special award for the most improved cadet.

JROTC
The Navy JROTC unit at Cypress Creek High School currently trains 255 cadets. However, many of our community members may not realize the many opportunities afforded our students.

The number of students in the program is growing by the year, and the program's importance in the Cypress Creek community is undeniable. JROTC offers so much to students whether they later enter military service or not (JROTC is NOT a recruitment program) - 1 minute inspirational video featuring our Bears - worth the look!

"There is something here for everybody: technical fields, athletics, student government, community service, and more. We also provide an aviation program and the SeaPerch underwater robotics program. JROTC is about growing citizens and preparing them for life in ways that are tangible. These kids surprise us everyday in great ways with their initiative and how they grow into leaders overnight."

The program challenges the cadets to be leaders in small group activities, excel in athletic contests, and meet academic expectations. JROTC also takes part in competitions against units from other schools, where cadets will compete in a day of marching, academic competitions, and athletic challenges.

Additional info. on JROTC and our Snap! Raise fundraising program which helps to keep the program running. Thank you for your interest and support.

Bear Roots Farms
FFA and Agriculture Science

Bear Roots Farms has had a busy year! The FFA and Agricultural Science students enhanced one of our garden beds with Florida-friendly/Water Wise plants (just below). They also have started harvesting food, including eggs! Next year they will be producing enough food to "sell" for donations, and the crops are organic and fully student grown.

Additionally, they received a $1,700 grant from National FFA to help improve the farm as we expand our program. We are so proud of Bear Roots Farms for their accomplishments this year.

Bear in the Skies!
Glecio Grespan (Class of 2021)

Cypress Creek sophomore Glecio Grespan took control of a Cessna 172 on Saturday, April 27th. Under the watchful eye of Professor Oladapo of Embry-Riddle, Glecio planned a flight from Daytona Beach to Gainesville and then experienced the thrill of flying his plan, seeing all of the aviation lessons he's learned this year come together in a lab like no other. Way to go Glecio!
