AUGUST NEIGHBORHOOD MEETINGS
JPNA Neighborhood Meeting
August 25, Wednesday, 6pm Zoom Meeting
Meeting ID: 837 1339 3056 Passcode: 367764
Countdown! One month + 13 days
Last chance to advocate for Undergrounding
One month and 13 days until the fate of the 138kV lines through our neighborhood is determined. Here's the countdown and how everyone can help!

  • HIRE AN ATTORNEY - DONE! An experienced attorney has been retained. The Underground Coalition researched city ordinances which state utilities must be undergrounded on gateway routes (Campbell is one).
  • MAKE A DONATION, ANY AMOUNT, TO THE LEGAL FUND
Sam Hughes Neighborhood Association
P.O. Box 42931
Tucson, AZ 85733-2931        (On the Memo line, write TEP)

  • INFORM THE MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL: Neighbors have done a great job letting TEP know how they feel--TEP changed nothing! The City Council also needs to understand that overhead lines are not a good vision for Tucson and to show support the undergrounding proposal. After all, they passed the ordinance for undergrounding.
LET THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL KNOW NOW !
USPS Mail:
              Mayor Regina Romero
              Members of Tucson City Council
              Attn: City Clerk’s Office
PO Box 27210        Tucson, AZ 85726-721

or Email: cityclerk@tucsonaz.gov  Be sure to include Mayor and Council in the body of your message so it is distributed to the mayor and all council members.

  • AUGUST 10- TEP will file a permit application with the ACC to allow them to build the overhead line. Here's the last chance to make a difference. When the "docket number" is released on August 11, we shall publish a special edition and post the contact addresses on our website. Public input is critical, and we must let the "Line Siting Committee" know.

  • SEPTEMBER 13 - An ACC "Line Siting Committee" hearing will be held in Tucson to decide to approve the application, deny it, or approve the application with conditions. The public will have the opportunity to attend, either virtually or in person.

The goal of all of these efforts will be to persuade our elected officials and the regulatory agencies that an above-ground, high voltage transmission through our city core and residential areas is wrong for Tucson’s future. It is certainly a financial burden for our neighborhood, but especially for the residences along or near the Lester/Banner basin and Park Avenue who will suffer the greatest loss of property values.
TEP-11th Hour Bait and Switch
Suddenly, as of late yesterday afternoon, after hours and hours of Zoom meetings and community input, TEP decides to throw an old option back into the mix. That option is #5- (avoiding Campbell Avenue Tucson's Gateway, protected by City ordinances) and through midtown neighborhoods, now down Vine Avenue through Jefferson Park. And they invite you to comment.
This TEP postcard will be coming your way. "Residents and other stakeholders are encouraged to attend the virtual open house public meeting on:
Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021, 6-7 p.m.

...but OUCH, the Goatheads!
Hi all!
It's time for my annual PSA about GoAtHeAdS. You might see a lush green mat covering yards around the neighborhood. But look more closely, and you'll see that this lovely green plant is a noxious weed covered in multi-pronged barbs that stick in shoes, dog's feet, and bicycle tires. Track them into your house and you'll find out why it's called puncture vine!

Please take a few minutes and check your property and those nearby to see if you have goatheads. If we all do our part, we can get rid of this weed in the neighborhood! (E. Posthumus)
