Bruce Waited For Help
“My Brucie,” exclaims the precious, 4 year-old Everly, as she tenderly pats her new best friend’s head. Bruce gives a wag of the tail and stays close to his new baby girl. Everly doesn’t care about his three-legged stance or the scars that are scattered over his body—only him…she only cares about Bruce.

The dog that was found suffering on the side of the road - a cruel victim of inhumanity- has finally found a family that cherishes him.

Bruce came to Clay Humane around the time that Hurricane Dorian came to visit.  If you remember, he was a potential victim of dog fighting and had such intense wounds that his leg had to be amputated. We were amazed at his gentle temperament considering his cruel situation. He was covered with several deep wounds of varying age and, although we will never know his full story, it is evident he is a survivor.

When we told Bruce’s story through the news, there was an outpouring of concern for his welfare and for what his future may hold. Fortunately, it was not difficult to match Bruce with a wonderful family because of his loveable and outgoing nature.

In a world where not every ending is a good one, Clay Humane is pleased to say that Bruce has, at last, found his happy place.

Why Are Black Cats Quintessential Halloween Icons?
Black cats are quintessential Halloween icons—and the number one costume choice for both elementary-aged children and oddly enough, women in their freshman year of college but do you know how they got such a spooky rap?

Beginning in the Middle Ages, black cats became associated with Satan, witches, and witchcraft; some people went so far as to believe that black cats were cohorts to witches or even witches who had taken on another form. This wide-spread superstition resulted in the horrific mass killing of black cats—and sometimes even their owners.

Aside from continuing to represent all things eerie, the fear of black cats still has some influence today. Many animal shelters won’t place black cats in homes during the month of October for fear of them being used sacrificially.

Clay Humane Selected As Florida Animal Friend
Grant Recipient
Clay Humane is excited to announce that it has been selected as a Florida Animal Friend Grant recipient in support of our free cat spay and neuter program! Proceeds generated from the purchase of Florida Animal Friend Spay and Neuter License Plates are awarded to qualifying programs throughout the state and Clay Humane was fortunate to be selected once again. The $20,000 will help Clay Humane expand its current spay and neuter program to include services for 150 bully breed dogs and an additional 1,100 cats through our free sterilization campaign. Feral, free-roaming, and even owned cats will be sterilized at no charge which also includes exam, ear-tipping, and a rabies vaccination.

The Society’s Feral Program is focusing on reducing the number of free-roaming and unowned stray or abandoned cats. With a shared mission of battling the staggering pet overpopulation problem, Clay Humane and Florida Animal Friends hope that this funding will help reduce the number of strays on the streets and of those healthy animals being euthanized in our shelters every day.

Free sterilizations are scheduled Monday through Friday each week with feral sterilizations being performed on Wednesdays on a first come, first serve basis. All cats must be brought into the clinic in humane traps.

Lend your support to this program and many others around the state by selecting the “Spay and Neuter” license plate for your vehicle at your next renewal!
