Oculus is an e-newsletter that is distributed by the OU Gibbs College of Architecture (GCA) during the fall and spring semesters. It features news about student, faculty, staff and alumni accomplishments, as well as events that may be of interest to our community. Note that there is a weekly version of the newsletter for a local audience, and a monthly version for a broader audience. Urban Design Studio Celebrates 30 Years

The Urban Design Studio at OU-Tulsa recently celebrated 30 years of building leaders and creating communities. Since 1988, the Urban Design Studio has been a flexible learning environment that brings together students from different backgrounds, disciplines, and skills to explore urban issues and develop design solutions.

Faculty, Alumnus Present Storm Water Infrastructure Research

Landscape Architecture professor Tom Woodfin, alumnus Rachel Ware, and Director of the Oklahoma Water Survey Jason Vogel recently presented their research entitled " North of the Red River: GSI in Oklahoma" at the Texas American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Conference.

Alumnus Accepted into Highly Selective "Tulsa Remote" Program

Landscape Architecture alumnus and principal of Alchemy Exteriors, Alex Tyler was recently accepted into the Tulsa Remote program. From a pool of over 10,000 applicants, 100 people were selected and given $10,000 to work remotely out of Tulsa for one year.

Director of Architecture Juries Student Design Competition at University of Nebraska 

Stephanie Pilat, Director of the Division of Architecture, recently served as a juror for a student design competition at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The SGH + Dri-Design Scholarship awards $5,000 and three prizes to the best student projects from the comprehensive studio. Pilat served alongside jurors Frank Jacobus of Silo Architecture and the University of Arkansas, and Ben Waechter of Waechter Architecture.

Faculty and Students Visit Citizen Potawatomi Nation

Regional and City Planning faculty and students recently visited Citizen Potawatomi Nation (CPN) with Dr. Jim Collard, the Regional and City Planning Professor of Practice and Director of Planning and Economic Development for CPN.

"Invisible Eve" Exhibition of Work by Renowned Photographer Displayed in Gould Hall

A photo exhibition by world-renowned photographer  Yousef Khanfar  was recently displayed by the Women and Gender Studies Center for Social Justice and hosted in the lobby of Gould Hall in March.  "Invisible Eve"  is a collection of photographs featuring women incarcerated throughout Oklahoma. Khanfar has been living part-time in Oklahoma and wanted to start a conversation about the state having one of the highest female incarceration rates in the country.

Students Publish Vol. 3, Issue 2 of "_543: The OU Architectural Theory and Criticism Journal"

Architecture graduate students enrolled in ARCH 5543, "Research and Critical Writing," Emily Homan and Jamie Leake have collaborated to edit the latest issue of _543: The OU Architectural Theory and Criticism Journal.  For this issue, Homan and Leake have selected four essays:  "Feminism in Architecture... or the Lack Thereof ," by Jamie Leake;  "Bias in the Workplace ," by Blake Adams;  "Feminist Theory and Architecture , pt. 1," by Alex Bonet; and  "Feminist Theory and Architecture , pt. 2," by Yingtong Zhou.

You're Invited to "An Evening at Bruce Goff's Spotlight Theatre"

Alumni and friends of the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture (GCA) and architecture aficionados interested in the work of Bruce Goff and  The American School are invited to  " An Evening at Bruce Goff's Spotlight Theater ," featuring a presentation on Goff and The American School by GCA dean Hans E. Butzer. The event will include a scotch tasting, as well as heavy appetizers catered by two local restaurants.

Design-Build Course to Be Offered at Creating_Making Lab During Summer Intersession

Instructors Francesco Cianfarani and Garrett Stowe are offering a three credit hour design-build course during the 2019 Summer Intersession. Students in the course will design and build a playhouse to be auctioned in support of the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). The course will run from May 12th to June 7th and will be from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Creating_Making Lab. Space is limited, so enroll today!

"Rethinking Women's Prison Designs" Course to Be Offered During Fall 2019 Semester

A seminar/elective class entitled "Rethinking Women's Prison Designs" (ARCH 4970/5970 and JMC 4970/5970) will be offered during the Fall 2019 semester! Join architecture Associate Prof. Marjorie P. Callahan with OU faculty from Journalism, Native American Studies, Policy and Leadership, Social Work and Social Sciences for a class that will focus on how environments influence behavioral outcomes.
