EPG's COVID-19 Rapid Re-Employment
Grants Initiative
In November of 2020, Employ Prince George's launched the COVID-19 Rapid
Re-Employment Grants initiative to encourage DC Metropolitan Region businesses to hire currently unemployed Prince George's County residents. EPG is excited to relaunch this initiative in September 2021, to provide financial assistance to businesses over an extended deadline.

The COVID-19 Workforce Development Recovery Program's Rapid Re-Employment Grants were created to ease the financial burden of onboarding new employees, for local businesses. Employ Prince George's Rapid Re-Employment Grants provide funding to businesses that hire unemployed Prince George's County residents and supplement 50%-75% of their new hires' salary. Grants are awarded on the first day of a new employee's first day of work and the maximum grant per new employee is $15,000.

YCC Vaccine Ambassadors Initiative
Youth Career Connections (YCC) is a premier education and employment program offered by Employ Prince George’s (EPG) exclusively for high school graduates and young adults ages 18-24 in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The YCC program is designed to help participants build the skills necessary to attain and maintain employment through Capstone Learning & In-Person/Virtual Internships with Employ Prince George’s Employer Partners in the following fields:

·        Administrative Services
·        Culinary Arts
·        Entrepreneurship
·        Healthcare
·        Information Technology
·        Performing Arts
·        Social Media Management

On August 23, 2021, the YCC Vaccine Ambassadors presented their marketing campaign to the Ad Hoc Working Group of the Prince George’s Healthcare Action Coalition. This group was formed to discuss the latest updates on Prince George’s County vaccination efforts, elevate community concerns, and forge new collaborations. The purpose of this project is to increase education about and access to the COVID-19 vaccine among young adults (<30 years old) in targeted communities. Teams developed messages that resonated with the target age group, produced posts, and content for this project.

THE YCC VACCINE AMBASSADORS MET AND EXCEEDED THEIR DELIVERABLES!

o  Researched best practices in health communication.
o  Identified barriers that young adults face in getting the COVID 19 vaccination.
o  Crafted messages that would motivate more young adults to get the COVID-19 vaccination.
o  Created social media posts and a short video that provided information to help reduce barriers and encouraged young adults to get vaccinated.

Check out this positive review from Sylvette A. La Touche-Howard, Health Planning & Development Administrator,

Workforce & News Highlights
If you choose not to get vaccinated against the coronavirus without having a legitimate medical or religious reason, you might want to start preparing for the cost of that decision.
Resumes, have become increasingly redundant as recruiters look for certain things and these shortcuts become a breeding ground for biases.
Older workers are being pushed out of the workforce at high rates during COVID-19, a detrimental move that could spell disaster for their own economic stability and for the workforce, too.

To help this vulnerable population stay in the workforce and maintain financial security, employers need to recognize the benefits of having them as a part of their community and give them the digital skills training they often lack.
Starting Monday, people will be able to enter Prince George’s County, Maryland, government buildings for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic set in.

In a news release, the county said that most county government agencies will resume normal operations effective Aug. 30.

That means some services will begin accepting walk-ins again; however, making appointments is still encouraged and required in some departments to access services.
