Hello New Students and Families,

I wanted to give everyone a warm welcome and introduce you to Riordan's House System! Each Riordan student belongs to one of four Houses. Read below for more information, and watch this video from our exceptional House Provincials.

The fabled Riordan Sorting Helm determines which of the four Houses our new students belong to. We ask that each student complete this brief House Questionnaire by Friday, July 3.

What is the House System?

Houses compete all year long to capture the Chaminade Cup! Points are based on participation in school events, competitions, and overall school spirit.

Have you ever watched the Harry Potter movies or read the books? It's sort of like that, with a different kind of Riordan magic. Like Hogwarts, Riordan is divided into four houses, each bearing the name of an important part of Riordan's Marianist history. Throughout the year, our four Houses cooperate, compete, and celebrate as we grow together in the Marianist Family Spirit.

What does the House System include?
  • Mentor Groups: Conducted by Mentor Group Teachers and Student Leaders. A time to learn, listen, share, and reflect. Once a week for 30 minutes.
  • Competitions: School-wide Rochambeau, Musical Chairs, Food Relays, Obstacle Courses, School-wide Kahoot, Video Game Tournaments, Tug of War, and more!
  • The Crusader Games: An event where the Four Houses compete in a series of games/competitions in pursuit of the "Crusader Games Trophy." The Crusader Games also includes "The Gauntlet," a Senior headlined relay event.
  • Chaminade Cup: After a year-long competition, one House is awarded the "Chaminade Cup!" Kudos to the House of Bolts for winning this year's Cup.

We look forward to meeting you next year!

Sincerely,

Mr. Benny Willers '08
