Westland Fire Department Hosts Fire Prevention Lunch - The Westland Fire Department will host their Annual Fire Prevention Hot Dog Lunch on  Saturday, October 5, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Westland Fire Station 1, located at 35701 Central City Parkway. There will be food, Smoke House Demos, Station Tours, Sidewalk CPR, Fire Life Safety, Jr. Fire Obstacle Course, Kids Fire Playhouse and more. 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings. Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location: 
  • Elections Commission Meeting on Monday, October 7, at 5:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall 36300 Warren Road, in the Council Conference Room. Please click here to see the agenda.
  • City Council Meeting - The Westland City Council meeting will be on  Monday, October 7,  at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Road.  Please click here to see the agenda.

Focus: Hope Senior Food Program - Tuesday, October 8, from 11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. at the Jefferson Barnes Community Vitality Center located at 32150 Dorsey Road. The food boxes offer seniors (60 years and older who meet the federal low-income guidelines), a nutritional low-sodium diet to supplement their daily food needs.  If a senior meets the eligibility requirements, he/she is able to pick up his/her first month's supply on that day.  In order to be certified, a senior must apply in person and bring the following: proof of age; identification and income, number of people in household.  For more information on the signing up at Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, contact Focus:  HOPE Commodity Supplemental Food Program at (313) 494-4600.   

Westland Harvest Fest Scarecrow Contest  - begins registration on October 7.  Help celebrate the City wide Westland Harvest Fest by entering in the Scarecrow Contest, sponsored by the Norwayne Community Citizens Council.  Help create the feeling of Fall by decorating a Scarecrow to help promote, your business, organization, group or your family.  Scarecrows will be placed in the field across from Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, located at 32150 Dorsey.  Judging will take place at the Westland Harvest Fest on Saturday, October 19th.  The cost to enter the contest is $25.00, the cost includes a stake to hang your scarecrow on.  Please click here for registration form,

 Last opportunity for the 2019 Westland Farmers & Artisans Market
- Stop by and shop with your favorite vendors from the past and visit the new vendors on Thursday, October 10th from 3:00 p.m - 7:00 p.m., located at 
1901 N. Carlson.  Shopping at your local farmers market is a great opportunity to eat fresh, flavorful and nutritious local produce, meet new friends and support your local economy.  

Permit Free Garage Sale Weekend - Friday, October 11 through Sunday October 13.  Residents can use this opportunity to host a garage/yard sale and avoid the normal fee that is required.  As an added bonus incentive to participate, and to help your sale be successful, the City will help promote your sale for FREE on our website.  You can even list what types of items you are selling to bring interested buyers right to you. Halloween Forest Fun Hike - this will be held outdoors and is recommended for children 4 and older, the hike lasts 45 minutes and there is a live animal show following the hike.  Pre-registration is required by calling (734) 261-1990 this event will be held on Saturday, October 12, 5:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. at the Nankin Mills Interpretive Center, located at 33175 Ann Arbor Trail.
