Committee Corner
It pains us to have to write yet another Committee Corner about wildfires in California - this time, the Southern California equestrian community has been hit particularly hard. We're sure everyone has seen the devastating photos and videos from affected areas. Many of our members have lost their barns, their tack, their homes, and more.  Our hearts go out to all those who have been affected by these fires.

In the wake of tragedy however, just like with the previous fires in Northern California, we have seen the equestrian community come together on a massive scale. Donations have poured in from all corners of the equestrian world and the generosity has been truly heartwarming. Thank you to the many, many people who have donated money, time, trailers, supplies, tack, and more to our affected members throughout this ordeal, and to the barns who housed evacuated horses in their time of need. Special thank you to the many feed and tack stores who stepped up to provide free shavings and food for evacuated horses and who have helped coordinate donation efforts and distributions. Especially during the holiday season, it means so much.

If you haven't had a chance to help yet, please consider making a donation today.  Visit the American Association of Equine Practitioner's Equine Disaster Relief Page for a list of vetted donation sites and funds. There are so many people, organizations, and companies doing great work and collecting donations, more than we can list here, so keep an eye out for upcoming fundraisers and donation drives. If you need assistance, please consider applying to the USHJA Foundation Horseman's Assistance Fund as well. Though it has been a tough few weeks, with the spirit of giving lifting our community up, we hope everyone can enjoy a happy holiday season!

Thank you to all of our members who attended the USHJA Annual Meeting, presented by World Equestrian Center (Dec 10-14) in San Antonio, Texas.  It was a great opportunity for Zone 10 members to hear about upcoming rule changes, voice their thoughts to their committee members, and participate in shaping the future of the sport.

Nearly 300 members from across the country worked together brainstorming new ideas, discussing programs, hearing guest speakers, asking questions and raising concerns all with a common goal of improving the sport. Click here to read about rule change proposals discussed.
Zone 10 Members Receive USHJA Annual Awards
Congratulations to Zone 10's Avery Lambert and Nancee Tepley!  Avery, at just 12 years old, earned the USHJA Youth Leadership Award for her dedication to academics, horsemanship, and community involvement. She currently serves as an ambassador for The Paisley Pony Magazine and competes in the large and medium-rated pony hunters. Nancee earned the West Coast Vital Horse Show Staff Award for her great work in the Blenheim show office, where she is the "go to" person for any question.

Avery and Nancee, along with the other recipients of the USHJA Annual Awards, were recognized and celebrated at the Evening of Equestrians Award Dinner during the USHJA Annual Meeting.
