Spring Recruitment is Here!
As the weather continues to warm up, we want to make sure that all youth have the opportunity to experience the fun spring and summer activities that lie ahead! To do that, we need your help recruiting new Scouts into our programs! For recruitment materials (yard signs, flyers, etc.) and support, please contact your District Executive. 

Peer-to-Peer Recruitment Incentive
This year we are pleased to announce that Scouts who recruit new youth into the program before June 30, 2019, will get a free ticket to the Chicago Blackhawks Training Camp in September! To redeem you Scout's ticket, click here.
Pathway to Adventure Council Camporee
All Scouts are welcome to join us at the Pathway to Adventure Council's first-ever council-wide camporee - The Future Frontier! The Camporee will be hosted at Busse Woods in Elk Grove Village from October 11-13, 2019.

Weekend and day participants are welcome for an early-bird price of $18 before August 31; the price increases to $25 on September 1.

Experience programs and activities that you can't always find on unit outings or even summer camp - including BMX cycling, robot building, hands-on STEM experiments, obstacle courses, rocket launches, and then complete the weekend with an incredible closing show!

Scout Tech Summer Programs
Announcing more Scout Tech summer programming opportunities! Due to the high demand of these clinics, registration will open on May 3.


Building Tech Merit Badge Clinics:
  • July 7: American Labor hosted by International Union of Engineers Local 399.
  • July 8: Welding hosted by Plumbers Local 130.
  • Scouts must be 13 y.o. or older. Registration page will have clothing restriction details.
  • August 8: The first of two clinics for Personal Management hosted by US Bank.
  • The follow-up clinic to review completed work will be the first week of January, 2020.

More Trading Tech clinics will be announced next month, so stay tuned!
Triton Merit Badge College
Announcing the third annual Triton Merit Badge College on Saturday, November 16! Space Exploration and Astronomy take place in a planetarium. Automotive Maintenance is in a real auto shop! Scouts can also learn to weld like a pro. We are proud to offer over 15 merit badges for Scouts to choose from. Registration will open soon! See you on November 16!

We are looking for pictures, written or recorded testimonials, stories, or anything else that documents your Scouting experiences.

Join our Jungle Adventure Day Camp in 2019! 
Day camp will have excellent program for youth (entering 1 – 5 grade in the fall) that is filled with fun and learning in an outdoor environment. Participants will have fun doing shooting sports, working with leather and wood, games, crafts, and so much more.

Day Camp will run Monday - Friday at 5 locations, and we will offer before and after care for an additional fee. There will be multiple Saturday locations as well.

We are looking for donations of plastic eggs and toilet paper/paper towel cardboard tubes. Please drop off your donations at any PTAC Service Center.

2019 Webelos Camps
Webelos Camps are a great opportunity for your pack to provide a unique experience to your Webelos dens. Activities include fishing, Scout Skills, BBs and Archery, Webelos Adventures requirements, and more! We're excited to offer several sessions of Webelos Overnight Camp in 2019. These camps are designed for next year's 4th and 5th grade Webelos dens and are offered at BOTH Owasippe and Napowan!

Note: Current 5th grade Webelos should transition to a Scouts BSA unit and attend Scouts BSA summer camp in 2019, not Webelos Camp.

Come to Family Camp to experience all the fun of Medieval times and become a knight! 

Family Camp is a great way to introduce your Cub Scouts to overnight camping with the comfort of their family or den! Plus, Family Camp can serve as an exciting addition to your pack’s program!

2019 Camp In-Training (CIT) - Spread the Word!
Do you know a Scout who has strong leadership potential, is high-energy and is ready to try out camp staff? We're looking for applicants for 2019 Camp Counselors-In-Training (CITs) at Napowan and Owasippe. Counselors-In-Training must be 14 years old by the start of summer camp and must be willing to spend several weeks as a volunteer member of the camp staff.

If you know of a Scout who fits the bill, encourage them to apply at:
2020 Philmont Council Contingent!
Registration for the Pathway to Adventure 2020 Contingent to Philmont is now open! PTAC has space for 24 people held for your adventure of a lifetime. The trip dates are July 5 - July 19, 2020. Because the 2018 season was canceled due to a wildfire on the property, reservations over the next few years will be tight due to 2018 canceled crews getting priority. 

2021 National Jamboree Adult Leader Opportunity
The 2021 National Scout Jamboree has just been announced, and the Pathway to Adventure Council (PTAC) has started planning for this fantastic event! The Jamboree Committee is being formed, and the committee is seeking adult leaders for the Jamboree troops. The Jamboree will be held at the National BSA Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia!
 
PTAC will be sending at least FOUR troops and ONE Venture crew to the National Jamboree in 2021. Each troop will need a Scoutmaster and three Assistant Scoutmasters. There are opportunities for at least 14 adults to serve as Scoutmasters, Crew Leaders, and Assistant Scoutmasters. Also, there are opportunities for at least four young adults (18 to 21) to serve as Assistant Scoutmasters. Jamboree troops will be formed geographically throughout the council, so Scouts and adult volunteers will not need to travel to other legacy council communities for meetings and planning activities. Adult volunteers will be assigned to Jamboree troops in their area. 
 
Adults interested in joining the Jamboree Committee or going to the 2021 National Jamboree as a Scoutmaster or an Assistant Scoutmaster must be registered leaders and currently active with a PTAC troop or Venture crew. In addition, there are physical fitness requirements for all participants due to the challenging physical nature of the Summit Bechtel Reserve.

Information on youth registration will be available late summer / early fall.

Free Camping Weekends at Napowan and Owasippe
Thinking about bringing your troop or Webelos den to summer camp at PTAC's Camp Napowan or Owasippe Scout Reservation, but never had a chance for your Scouts visit? Now's your chance! We're hosting free camping weekends at both PTAC Scouts BSA resident camps this fall: 
Sept. 20-22 at Napowan 
Sept. 27-29 at Owasippe 

Tour the camps and try some of our programs. Shooting sports, boating, and climbing will be offered.

TRAINING
National Youth Leadership Training
The Summer 2019 National Youth Leadership Training courses are filling fast! Get your spot before they are gone. Session two is full! And session one ( June 16-22) is filling fast. A $50 late fee will be charged starting May 18! T he course will be held at Owasippe Scout Reservation in Twin Lake, Michigan. The fee of $280 includes transportation to/from one of several locations throughout Pathway To Adventure Council, lodging, food, course materials, and a week of camping. "Camp Cash" may be applied.

If you have already registered, here are some key dates and other relevant information: 
  • May 1 - watch for an e-mail with the information below and anything else you need to know about coming to NYLT this summer. 
  • June 1- your ABC medical form is due. 

There will be a staff member at each service center from 7-8:30 pm as follows: 
Chicago, May 20; Arlington Heights, May 22; La Grange, May 23; Munster, May 30. 
Please drop off your form (2 copies and you won’t get them back). If those dates aren’t convenient, please drop the forms off at any service center marked “NYLT Medical, Attn: Mary Sabol, Arlington Heights Service Center.” 

The Scoutmasters will hold a zoom meeting to talk about the courses. It will be on May 20 at 7 pm. Details will be sent in the e-mail to registered participants. See you at Owasippe!

2019 Wood Badge
Wood Badge will be held September 20-22 and October 26-28 at Camp Frank S. Betz in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

(Space is limited to 48 participants.)

Powder Horn
Powder Horn is designed to help the Scouting unit by exposing adult leaders to safely conducted outdoor/high-adventure activities of a fun and challenging nature. This course is open to any adult registered in the BSA.

ATV Training at Owasippe
The ATV training class uses a controlled environment and a hands-on approach to teach ATV care and the importance of safe riding practices. At the end of the day, participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a guided ride off the training course and into the woods of Owasippe! 

There are five dates to choose from in 2019 and space is limited to just six participants per class. Please sign up today!
Wilderness First Aid Classes
This 2-day course is required for high adventure trips including Philmont, Sea Base, and Northern Tier. It is also an excellent first aid course for any Scouter who would like to receive advanced training. These classes meet the requirements for Wilderness First Aid established by the Boy Scouts of America.

Wilderness First Aid Classes are being offered February through June.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) Training
If you are attending Napowan or Owasippe this summer with your troop, consider taking Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) during your stay at camp. The Pathway to Adventure Council Training Committee is excited to offer these courses each week at summer camp. Adult Scouters can register for IOLS through their unit's summer camp registration, similar to Scout merit badge sign-up.
Order of the Arrow Update
Candidates who were elected into the Order of the Arrow this spring will have three opportunities to complete their Ordeal:
Spring Fellowship: May 24-26 - Owasippe
Summer Fellowship: August 16-18 - Owasippe
Fall Fellowship: September 6-8 - Camp Betz

The first Ordeal induction for Takhone Lodge will take place at the Spring Fellowship May 24-26 at Owasippe Scout Reservation. Sign up is now open for Ordeal candidates, Arrowmen, Scouters, and families! All are welcome to come to help open up Owasippe for the summer.

 Schneider Foundation Supports Local Scouting
 The Schneider Foundation recently made a grant to the Pathway to Adventure Council to support local Scouting because of Schneider employee and longtime Scouter Edward Melkonian.

When Schneider sought recommendations for the company’s annual charitable giving initiative, Ed said it was easy for him to endorse PTAC. Ed is the Scoutmaster for Troop 671, which is chartered by the St. Jane de Chantal Holy Name Society in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood of Chicago.

We sincerely thank Ed and the Schneider Foundation for their commitment to preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

National Youth Leadership Training Patron Patch

National Camp Accreditation Program (NCAP): Volunteers Needed
PTAC's National Camp Accreditation Program (NCAP) Committee is looking for volunteers to assist in visiting camps - both our own local camps and other council's resident camps. NCAP volunteers receive training in the BSA's National Camping Standards and assist in the annual accreditation process. Volunteers are needed for both local camp visits, such as day camps, as well as regional camp visits, such as other council's Scouts BSA camps in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana.
