Through the rest of the year, the year-over-year analysis in this newsletter will compare data from the current year to data from 2019. This shift will allow us to compare the pre-pandemic data to current labor market information, and help us provide a better analysis of the economic recovery.

Highlights from the recent report include: 

  • From June 2019 to June 2021, the Tulare County Employment Report showed an increase of 1.7 percent in the unemployment rate and a 2.7 percent decrease in jobs
  • The industry with the largest numerical month-over growth was Local Government (Education), while Farm experienced the largest month-over numerical loss in jobs
  • From June 2019 to June 2021, employment decreased by 5,500 and the labor force decreased by 2,300

HOW DOES TULARE COUNTY'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE CHANGE OVER TIME?
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported a 1.7 percent increase in Tulare County's unemployment rate, from a revised 9.3 percent in June 2019 to 11.0 percent in June 2021. 

The month-over-month unemployment rate increased by 0.8 percent, from 10.2 percent in May to 11.0 percent in June 2021, slightly higher than the average month-over increase of 0.5 percent.

HOW MANY JOBS HAVE COME AND GONE IN THE LAST YEAR & THE LAST MONTH?
2019 TO 2021 | A COMPARISON
From June 2019 to June 2021, Transportation, Warehousing & Utilities showed the greatest numerical and percent gains with an increase of 500 jobs and job growth of 7.4 percent. Professional & Business Services showed the greatest numerical decline with a loss of 1,300 jobs, while Accommodation showed the greatest percent decline with a job loss of 40.0 percent.
MONTH OVER MONTH | A COMPARISON
From May to June 2021, Local Government (Education) showed the greatest month-over numerical gain with an increase of 400 jobs, while Arts, Entertainment & Recreation showed the greatest percent gain with job growth of 14.3 percent. Farm showed the greatest month-over numerical decline with a loss of 700 jobs, while Financial Activities showed the greatest percent decline with a loss of 2.7 percent of jobs.
