ICGC Response to Synagogue Terrorist Attack
in Poway, California
Sacred gatherings - whether they be a synagogue, church, mosque, or temple, are meant to be a place of refuge from the world, and an assault on one is an assault on all.

This past Saturday we saw again the deadly impact of hate at the Chabad synagogue in Poway, California where 100 worshipers had gathered to celebrate the Jewish Passover holiday. A young shooter full of hate entered the sacred space, killed one, and injured three others. The gunman, who publicly expressed white-supremacist and anti-Semitic views, also claimed responsibility for an attempted arson at a mosque in nearby Escondido last month.

We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community and convey our deepest sorrow. May God give comfort to their loved ones and may He bless the injured with a quick and lasting recovery.

We renew our commitment to come together with our interfaith partners to overcome hate.

Assalamu Alaykum,

Alhamdulillah, I want to thank Allah for blessing us with an even more successful Shop Free event! May Allah reward my very dedicated team that made this possible (Alesia leach, Saynab Omar, Nishat Alam, Jason Brima, Mollie Brewsaugh, Hadeel Jaradat and Afshan Khan) they worked hours upon hours planning for the event and getting things ready for it.

May Allah reward all our AMAZING volunteers, (including the YDP group and volunteers coming from Clifton) for working the last three days and putting even more hours than they thought they would. We had 222 slots filled with about 100 volunteers and about 500 hours of combined work.

May Allah reward our donors (whether items donated or funding).

This is truly a community event and it takes our whole community to come together to make it successful. Inshaa Allah we hope to have more volunteers next time.

Jazakum Allahu Khairun,

Rema Rizek
