A Message From the Library Director
The Edgartown Library's online services remain open, and library staff are available and always looking for new and creative ways to serve our community through this unprecedented time, as you'll see below.


The library remains here for you, and we welcome your comments, questions, and ideas. Staff are available to assist our patrons, and may be reached by calling our main line at 508-627-4221 (this number is monitored, and we will return your call as soon as possible) or by emailing us at info@edgartownlibrary.org.

Please visit our website often. We'll be adding new programs every week, and will continue to develop and expand our digital services.

We wish all of our patrons health and safety, and we are committed to continuing to serve everyone as we take care of ourselves and each other.

There are several digital services you have access to as an Edgartown Library patron, and as a Massachusetts resident. From audiobooks, to streaming Oscar winning films, to free access to the New York Times online, check it all out below.

Movies, TV Shows, Music, Comics, eBooks, and more
Hoopla is a digital media service that allows you to enjoy movies, music, audiobooks, eBooks, comics and TV shows on your computer, tablet or phone, and even on your TV. With no waiting, titles can be streamed immediately, or downloaded to phones or tablets for offline enjoyment later.

Free Online Access
You can now access the New York Times online for free. Simply click here and enter the code c59d2806040934a2 , then create a username and password.

Use that information to "Log In" upon every future visit to www.nytimes.com

In our continuing efforts to provide our patrons with access to quality library services, the Edgartown Library has created the option to receive a temporary library card. This card will grant you access to all the above resources, including Libby, Kanopy, Hoopla, and the New York Times online.

Fill out the application below, download it, and email it to us at info@edgartownlibrary.org


Cards will be valid until June 30, 2020. ID is not required at this time, but upon re-opening, we will request ID in order to convert your temporary card into a permanent card. If you need any assistance, please email us at info@edgartownlibrary.org.

What better way to celebrate Shakespeare's birthday than with a live reading from two of our favorite island poets? Join us via Zoom and take a front row seat.

This month we've collected poems from some of our very best Island poets to share with you:
Fan Ogilvie
Fan Ogilvie is a poet, teacher of poetry and organizer of poetry workshops. In 1984 she received a Chester Jones Foundation commendation award. She is included in two chapbooks, The Other Side of the Hill and In a Certain Place . Her poems are published in The Poet and The Poem Anthology, Poet Lore, Three Sisters, Z’Arts, Fulcrum, An Annual of Poetry and Aesthetics, The Martha’s Vineyard Journal of Writing, online on Fieralingue, the Poet’s Corner and others. She helped to organize the Martha’s Vineyard Writers Program, and taught poetry at the Featherstone Center for the Arts on Martha’s Vineyard from 1996 until 2007.

Arnie Reisman
Arnie Reisman is an award-winning writer, producer and performer, who is featured in commercial and public television, radio, corporate video, private and public media publications, theatre and film. In 2014 he was selected as the Poet Laureate of Martha's Vineyard. He has since unified and promoted the Island's poetry scene to great success.

Jill Jupen
Jill Jupen, Martha's Vineyard Poet Laureate (2019-2021), has been published in several literary journals including Green Mountain Review, Hunger Mountain, Dakota Territory, and Rattle. Nominated for a Pushcart Prize, in 2018 she won the Plan B Press poetry chapbook contest. This award led to the publication of “The Space Between." She founded and leads the Martha’s Vineyard Poets Collective.

Rose Styron
Rose Styron is a poet, journalist, editor, and human rights activist. She has authored four poetry collections, Fierce Day  (Friesen Press, 2015),  By Vineyard Light  (Rizzoli, 1995),  Thieves' Afternoons  (Viking, 1973), and  From Summer to Summer  (Viking, 1965). 

Donald Nitchie
Donald Nitchie’s poetry collection Driving Lessons was published in 2007. He leads Poetry Drop-in Sessions at local libraries, and will be offering a writing workshop online in May for the Edgartown Library.

Passion for Fashion
An affectionate introduction to the indelible chronicler of NY street fashion and society for the New York Times. Directed by Richard Press. (2011) (K)

The charismatic “Empress of Fashion” reigned over Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute for almost half a century. Directed by Lisa Immordino Vreeland. (2012) (K)

This fast-paced look at Carine Roitfeld, former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris and formidable fashionista, is like flipping through a big, fat, glossy magazine. Directed by Fabien Constant. (2013) (K)

A great old-school rap soundtrack supports this genesis of hip-hop fashion from the Bronx in the ‘70s to its influence on the catwalks of today. Directed by Sacha Jenkins. (2015) (K)

Legendary in the fashion world, “The Battle of Versailles” was a charity fundraiser for the restoration of the palace pitting a dream team of American fashion designers against the big boys of the French couture establishment. Deborah Draper directs. (2012) (K)

She has a Masters' degree in East West Psychology and fifteen years experience as a mental health clinician on Martha's Vineyard. Her Chair Yoga classes are a favorite among our patrons. Join Captain Chris on the UCP Schmorgenborgen *of dealth* for a fun romp through the multiverse, now featuring online play. Using the power of the internet, and our friends at Roll20, we will be able to continue our mission to explore the worlds created by our favorite authors.

New to the crew? No problem. Everyone ages 10-16 are welcome, and character creation takes mere minutes. Just follow this sign-up link to create your Roll20 account and get into the game. We will also be using Discord for voice chat if you'd like to sign-up for that as well.

Meet up with all of your library friends to play some board games digitally. Thanks to our friends at Tabletopia and Board Game Arena we can play together online for free. There's no apps to download, just click the links above and sign-up for access to hundreds of free multi-player games. There are chat features on both platforms, but we will be using Discord as well if you'd like to communicate with voice.
