Want to send a little extra encouragement during state testing?
  
Best Buddies is here to help! 

For $1, you can send your student a Testing Gram with a small goodie. 
They will be delivered during testing weeks to reading/language arts and math classes respectively. Fill out and return the form below along with $1 
to the Main Office or Room 18. All forms received by 1:30pm will be delivered to the testing teacher the following day. We will do our best to meet any 
preferences listed, but some quantities are limited. 
Testing Grams will also be sold before school and during both lunches 
May 6th-16th. Please one form per delivery.

8th Graders on the East Coast!
Over Spring Break, McAuliffe sent 33 8th grade students to the East Coast to visit historical sites in New York, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia! In addition to sites visited, students also went to a Mets baseball game and had a congressional tour from former McAuliffe Eagle, Davis Boyer! Huge thank you to Ms. Miller for leading this trip and to Mr. Grillo and Ms. Bellendir for chaperoning!
McAuliffe Instrumental Music in Reno!
Also during Spring Break, our McAuliffe Jazz Band traveled to Reno for a national competition! What an awesome finish! Congratulations to McAuliffe Jazz Band and Mr. Fontaine on getting 5th place out of 24 schools. Our trumpet section was recognized and received a special award (Kiran Trivedi, Alexander Russell, Te'A Lucasen, Andrew Bensavage and Paul Dunbar) and recognition was also given to Jeremiah Finally on vibes, Dean Mac on alto sax and Connor Taing on guitar.

Also, Combo I performed, and individual medals were given to Kiran Trivedi on trumpet, Tina Li on flute
Connor Taing on guitar and Dean Mac on alto sax. In addition, Combo II comprised of LeAnn Lee and Kiera Wong performed a piano duet and both received a medal.

It was great that every student had something to celebrate.

Hello Singers!
Based on the feedback we received last week, we are very excited to announce the third annual McAuliffe Community Chorus!  We will have two rehearsals in the McAuliffe choir room: Thursday May 2nd from 6-8PM and Tuesday May 7th 6-8 PM. The performance will be on Wednesday May 8th at 5:30-7:30 in the McAuliffe ODAT. Please register below if you plan to participate and spread the word! Send this to everyone you know and post on your social media sights. The choir is open to anyone in the community 6 th  grade to still breathing! I look forward to directing many of my friends and current/former students. Fill out a separate form for each participant.

Congrats to Mrs. Armstrong--Arts Educator of the Year from McAuliffe!
The Orange County Music and Arts Administrators are pleased to announce the  2019 Orange County Outstanding Arts Educators and the  2019 Orange County Music and Arts Award   Recipients .

Mrs. Armstrong was nominated for her commitment to the dramatic arts at McAuliffe and growing our program in her first year here!

Congratulations to all of the recognized outstanding arts educators, administrators, and advocates throughout Orange County!
Congrats to Ms. Miller--Seal Beach Lions' Teacher of the Year from McAuliffe!
Ms. Miller was recognized this past week at the Seal Beach Lions' Teacher of the Year Dinner for being a teacher that goes above and beyond both inside and outside the classroom! Congrats to the winners from every school site!
CAASPP Testing Has Started!

Breakfast at McAuliffe is here!

The McAuliffe Breakfast Program started this week on December 3rd. Breakfast at school is affordable! If you qualify for free and reduced price meals, you also qualify for the breakfast program, with no additional paperwork. If you must pay, breakfast costs $2.25. Nowhere else will you find a balanced breakfast at such a low cost.

So take advantage of this opportunity to start the day on the right foot. Your child will find breakfast at school provides not only a nutritious meal but also a relaxed atmosphere for socializing with friends and siblings.

Registration is now open for LAEF’s Summer Enrichment Institute!
 
Sign up now at  www.LAEF4kids.org/programs ! The fully accredited Los Alamitos Education Foundation presents the 10 th  annual Summer Enrichment Institute (SEI), which offers valuable classes to students in grades K-12. 
 
Multi-class discounts are available for the summer –  25% off the second class and 50% off any class thereafter throughout the entire summer ; it is applied to a family or individual student. Class fees increase after May 9.
 
Join the Summer Enrichment Institute to keep kids learning and engaged this summer! Session 1 is from June 10–21 and Session 2 is from June 24-July 3. Students entering grades 6-12 will be at Oak Middle School ( See Catalog ).
 
LAEF is offering Summer Sports Camps and Camps in the Arts by Los Al’s Head Coaches and Directors! HIGH SCHOOL FOR CREDIT registration is available online until Wednesday, May 29, 2019.

School Lunch Hero Day!
The National School Lunch Program has an annual School Lunch Hero Day. This year, it is celebrated on Friday, May 3 rd . Here’s some brief information on the holiday:
 
“Between preparing healthy meals for America’s students, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, school nutrition professionals are true heroes.
 
On Friday, May 3, 2019, we will celebrate the 7th Annual School Lunch Hero Day! School Lunch Hero Day is a chance to showcase the difference school nutrition professionals make for every child who comes through the cafeteria.
 
School Lunch Hero Day provides you with the perfect opportunity to recognize the hardworking professionals in your school cafeterias.”
 
As a school district, we appreciate the time, effort, and hard work that the food service employees demonstrate on a daily basis. We encourage administrators and teachers take part in the I Love My School Lunch Hero Video Contest! This year, the deadline to submit entries is Friday, April 19 th .
