Join the Conversation for Parks Master Plan
What should we have in our city parks? Before drafting a long-term City of Coral Gables Parks Master Plan, city officials want to get direct feedback from residents about their interests, needs and ideas. A series of Community Input Meetings have been scheduled from Tuesday, May 7 through Saturday, May 11, at various times and locations to give everyone an opportunity to attend a community input workshop. The Parks Master Plan is the roadmap for the next 15 years that will define the city’s recreation facilities, parks, amenities and other related initiatives.
Why Trees Are Important in Coral Gables
With the recent celebration of Arbor Day in Coral Gables, it’s important to share the value that trees have in our city’s past history and current lifestyle. Known as a garden city, Coral Gables has been designated as a Tree City USA for the past 34 years. In the early 1900s, City founder George Merrick first planted guava trees on the family’s homestead. In 1901, George’s mother Althea named as “Guavonia School” the rustic cabin where her younger children received an education, becoming the first public school west of Coconut Grove. Trees are what makes our City so beautiful.

Coral Gables Among Top US Cities for Small Businesses
Coral Gables is a great place to start a small business, and is being nationally recognized as a city where entrepreneurs can thrive. Coral Gables was ranked the third best city in the nation for small businesses by Verizon’s partner company, Go.Verizon.com. The company just released its 2019 Best Small Cities to Start a Small Business report ahead of National Small Business Week and Economic Development Week. From independent books stores to our innovative entrepreneurs, small businesses and startups are the backbone of the City’s economy. According to Go.Verizon.com, more than 300 small cities were evaluated on their financial climate, demographics, education level of the workforce, in-city commute times, income per capita, broadband access, availability of SBA loans and overall tax friendliness for small businesses.
Defining the Vision for Flagler Section Community
Thanks to the great input and participation of the community in February, the City of Coral Gables is ready to present the design concepts and results from the Flagler Section Community Vision Workshop . The design team has been studying and evaluating all the ideas that were gathered at the walking tour, hands-on session, and online. We invite you to attend this presentation scheduled for Monday, May 13, 6 p.m. at the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Avenue. Before moving forward with this new vision, City officials want to share this important new step in the process with all the neighbors involved.
Get Your Gables Green Business Certification
The City of Coral Gables, in partnership with the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce and the City’s Sustainability Advisory Board, is introducing the Coral Gables Green Business Program , a voluntary reward certification for those local businesses that think green and take environmental responsibility for the benefit of our planet. This free and simple process provides various tiers of certification – bronze, silver, gold and platinum – depending on the level of their environmental commitment. Gables is “SolSmart Bronze” for Advancing Solar Energy Growth
The City of Coral Gables has received a Bronze designation from the national SolSmart program for making it faster, easier, and more affordable for homes and businesses to go solar.
