I think we can all agree that to say we’re going through a highly unusual spring might be one of the biggest understatements we can pronounce. Phrases like stay-at-home, wash-your-hands, and especially wear-a-mask would not have entered our vocabulary with such frequency had it not been for the onslaught of the coronavirus.
But here we are. The good news is that we, as a City, are committed to triumphing over this unseen enemy. Celina is working very closely with the Collin County Health Department through our Fire Department and Emergency Management Team. These City employees are utilizing the expertise they’ve developed over years of dealing public emergencies, and at the same time, they’re blazing new trails with innovative approaches to the pandemic.
I’ve seen their dedication firsthand, and I can tell you that we are in good hands. Of course, we all have to do our part in helping flatten curve and eventually defeat the virus. The health and safety of our residents is the City’s highest priority, and we are committed to doing everything we can to meet that goal.

The pandemic has, of course, caused us to cancel and postpone special events throughout the usually-busy spring season. I know you understand why we took those steps, and your support of our efforts are very much appreciated. It still hurts, though.
Nevertheless, we press on, hopeful that we can still put on some events while still maintaining a measure of social distancing, hand-sanitizing, and other health and safety measures.
Our Friday Night Market is looking to hold its event on Friday, June 5 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Also, that evening our planned Grand Re-opening at the Celina Public Library is scheduled. That event is planned to take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the library.
On Saturday, June 27, we’re planning on holding a modified Splash and Blast. We’re still working out the details but put it on your calendar and watch for more information coming soon. As you know, our solid waste contractor has resumed bulk trash collection. The same rules apply when setting out your bulk and brush. The pickups are scheduled on the first and third weeks of the month with our next bulk and brush pickup set for next week.
Today marks the end of Police Week, and next week is Public Works Week. Please express your appreciation to our police officers and public works personnel when you encounter them. We appreciate your kind words. And, finally, City Hall will be closed on May 25 to allow our employees to commemorate Memorial Day.
Stay safe, wash your hands, and, if you choose to, wear a mask where appropriate.
